Dexter Season 5
Re: Dexter Season 5
lol, this reminds me of the Lost thread, with page after page of speculation ending in crushing disappointment
Re: Dexter Season 5
It's actually a trend. BSG, Lost and now Dexter - all great shows, eventually ruined because they ran out of ideas and used religion as a crutch for shitty writing.
Re: Dexter Season 5
on the other hand, BSG and Lost didn't suffer the slow death spread over 3-4 seasons that Dexter is going through. BSG was pretty good until the rushed and unconvincing tying-up-of-threads in the final ever episode. Lost - same deal; in fact, the story developed a lot more focus as it went on, and became tighter - no doubt because the writers knew how much time they had to fill and could plan accordinglybrisk wrote:It's actually a trend. Re: Dexter Season 5
I never watched Lost, but BSG had a heavy religious overtone from the first season and carried that through to the end as part of the plotline. IMO it worked for the series. Dexter facing off against a religious nutjob this season was an interesting idea but ended up being poorly realized because of shite writing. Unfortunately the next season is likely to be as bad or worse.brisk wrote:It's actually a trend. Re: Dexter Season 5
Just finished Season 6 and I thought it was a decent comeback given the previous season. The Lumen one has by far been the worst yet, absolutely atrocious. This one wasn't that bad, and I even liked the twist with Travis and Gellar mid-way through, even though it did smell a bit like "Directed by M. Night Shamalyan". I honestly did not see that coming. I also like how Travis' personality changed from the meek subservient type to full on angry guy grr with his schizophrenia becoming apparent to the viewer.
And like someone mentioned earlier, no more of that Angel/LaGuerta bullshit [and much less of LaGuerta overall]. The whole intern thing: the chick selling the hand on eBay and then that creepy guy buying it and giving it back to Dexter [plus his weird fascination with Dexter]. Not sure what they were going for there? Or I guess they might be saving it for the next season?
The Nebraska distraction was a bit meh, I guess they could have done something more exciting with Brian.
Also, I don't see how Deb finding out about Dexter can be considered a weak development device. I haven't read the books, but didn't someone say Deb finds out about Dexter quite early on? The incest angle I didn't care much for, I don't think it adds value [although I'm not sure whether this is from the books or not?].

Re: Dexter Season 5
lol at all the people bitching about a show they still watch after 6 seasons...
Re: Dexter Season 5
I watch it, in a sense that one watches billboards on the highway.
Re: Dexter Season 5
They were setting up the next seasons plot with that, I guarantee it. Dexter completely shatters his hopes with the game he was working on, and basically says video games are a waste of time better spent living your life. Well, now he's going to keep with the serial killer theme out in the real world.U4EA wrote:The whole intern thing: the chick selling the hand on eBay and then that creepy guy buying it and giving it back to Dexter [plus his weird fascination with Dexter]. Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.
