Sherlock
So has anyone watched the BBC version of Sherlock? I happened to walk in when my Dad was watching a bit of it and I thought it might be worth a look, so i obtained the first season.
What a program!!! Benedict Cumberbatch plays the part of Holmes brilliantly. I'd go as far as saying he is as good a Jeremy Brett and is far better than Downey Jr. In fact the program itself is of a higher quality than most films. Beautifully written and perfectly acted, it has been a TV highlight for me - one of the best programs I have seen actually. Pitty there are only 3 episodes per series.
Does anyone else watch it? If not, obtain and enjoy!

Re: Sherlock
I watched it and enjoyed it, and agree with your opinion of Cumberbatch DC, but I found the second series not quite as good as the first.
Still, good to see that the license fee does occasionally produce something worth watching in these days of endless starmaker and property shows.

The Hound of the Baskervilles one was shitty but the other two were top notch, better than the first series imo, especially the first episode. And indeed, every now and then the BBC produce something worthy of the license fee. Sherlock is one such thing and Jonathan Meades is another.Mat Linnett wrote:I watched it and enjoyed it, and agree with your opinion of Cumberbatch DC, but I found the second series not quite as good as the first.

Also, theories for the final episode?
Moriarty had forgotten about Molly so Sherlock, anticipating that he had to die in order to defeat Moriarty, asked her for some kind of medicine to reduce his heart rate to appear dead to John. He then jumped off the building into the laundry truck below, then while he climbed out (and john got distracted by the chap bicycle) he took the medicine and played dead, maybe fake blood too. Molly then revived him in the morgue. Also I reckon Moriarty faked his death too.

Re: Sherlock
great first season, second one was a bit shit - prefer sherlock as a detective to doctor who without the phone box.
phant - might want to change your spoiler text colour to 212121.

yeah it's decent popcorn if you have 90 minutes to spare
Re: Sherlock
Watched the first series, missed the 2nd cause of when they put the first epidode of it on.
First ever episode started off really slowly, I was going to stop watching it, but someone who'd seen it before convinced me to stay watching it. Really great show. I too was disappointed to find that there's only 3 episodes per series
They should advertise it more cause I missed the 2nd 2 episodes of the 2nd series by forgetting about it
Overall, I was really impressed with the first series
I was unimpressed that we had to wait for so long for a 2nd series, and then it turns out they only made 3 episodes again! When it was on the first series I thought that they only made 3 cause it was new and they didn't know how popular it was going to be yet.
Yeah, right about Dr. Who, they should stop making Dr. Who rubbish and put more money into making more episodes of Sherlock per series.
As for spoiler text, we shiould have (proper) spoiler tags (press button to reveal/hide) like so many forums - probably running the same software as this forum - have. I run my browser with custom colours* so simply recolouring the text is no help to me
* (the contrast is too high otherwise)

Re: Sherlock
So I'm guessing the second crappy slo-mo Sherlock Holmes movie was to generate interest in this pointless series remake?
pfft
Here's an idea for the - apparently - entertainment-starved audience: read the fucking books.

Re: Sherlock
No, that film has nothing to do with this series. They are like polar opposites. I wouldn't touch that film with a barge pole. The Sherlock series, however, is tele series brilliance. It's respective of the books, aparrently, and it shows. You should watch it, you don't know what your'e missing. They really made the effort to make it have what the made the originals so great.

Re: Sherlock
lol....then why not just watch the originals? Because they're in black and white?
WE NEED TO REMAKE THEM SO THAT A NEW AUDIENCE CAN EXPERIENCE THEM FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!

Re: Sherlock
Prediction: in the next 20 years the Sherlock Holmes stories will be re-re-remade and - if he's still alive and not killed by an angry horde - George Lucas will remake at least one of the Star Wars movies...so that modern audiences can experience them "for the first time" You know...like that current re-re-re-re-release of Beauty And The Beast....in 3D!!!!
Re: Sherlock
can't believe i'm saying this but DTS is right (at least, until the second series where it took a bit of a nosedive in terms of storytelling).
it is a new interpretation and it stands up well enough alongside the jeremy brett series and the basil rathbone movies - it's actually closer to the original stories in some respects and has absolutely buggerall to do with the recent hollywood movies.
you should definitely check out the first series if you're a fan of the stories.

Re: Sherlock
GFY you are right with your predictions, except the Star Wars remake will be an interactive Matrix
Should we mention that this Sherlock TV series is set in the present day? That make any difference to you GFY?

Re: Sherlock
lol
No...it won't make a difference as it still indicates consumer's unfailing propensity to give money to remakes/sequels/reimaginings/etc while simultaneously bitching for something new.
If you don't get my point from my previous posts, perhaps it'll make sense now?
Besides blaming the consumer, I also blame Syria.

Re: Sherlock
why do you guys prefer the first season? i think the second one was better.
s01e02 seemed totally random to me - concept wise that is.
in total i really liked the show. but it does nothing really new to me:
-the character dynamics between holmes and watson have allready been fully explored in house.
- the sherlocks analysis-mode is a bit fresh.
- i like how they deal with sms
- i like the tempo of the narration; nothing gets overexplained

Re: Sherlock
To be fair, I'm guessing there's a genuine reason there's so much Sherlock Holmes stuff doing the rounds now; the original stories have dropped out of copyright and into the public domain, meaning anyone can put their spin on the character now. I suspect that's also why the recent Conan movie got made.
Re: Sherlock
though no doubt some retarded american senator will suggest extending copyright UNTIL THE END OF TIME, and a gaggle of influential morons will agree because to do otherwise means threatening american jobs/freedom/apple pie/mcdicks
Re: Sherlock
aye, there's a lot of classic lit (and classic crap) in the public domain now - e.g. yet another version of john carter of mars will be out next year, despite the original story being bloody awful. it's a shame nobody picked up on h.g. wells' war in the air - if the yanks had read that (or at least watched the movie that could've been made), iraq might've been less of a clusterfuck.
on sherlock, i preferred the first series because it was about sherlock holmes solving crimes (like in the stories) - without that essential element of his solving crimes that are presented as a mystery that the viewer/reader might solve themselves if they pay enough attention, it's just some guy being a smartarse/providing high-camp drama for waterheads (like doctor who).

Moriarty had made himself look like Holmes, hence the kids were so scared of him when he met them (interesting fact, they filmed the scene in the childrens place in Tredegar House, my first home looks over that and I saw them filing this and Dr Who...I will post a pic at some point...) so it could have been that Holmes found his diguise and threw Moriaty off disguised as himself?
I agree with your theory, but this is another posibility given the things that happened ealier in the episode
