Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
FUCK OFF STRANG- oh wait
It's very good on paper, with decent specs and lots of cool little features. Unfortunately, it's another classic Sony fuckup in the making and if the PSP and 3DS taught us one thing, it's that price can make or break a product. At the moment, it's just too expensive and the launch games don't make me want to run out and buy one.
The 3DS did absolutely shit when it launched too and that had the same game quality/price issues. Then they dropped the price, brought out some decent games and it started selling again.
The Vita is doing incredibly shit in Japan, which is the PSP's main selling territory by quite a margin. They had Monster Hunter for the PSP to keep sales coming in, but Nintendo bought the rights to it AFAIK. From a JP perspective, most of the games seem to be aimed at a western audience (wipeout, uncharted etc..) so maybe it'll sell better over here. Even so, I don't know a single person who has ordered a Vita yet. Gonna be interesting to see it all unfold anyway.

Yeah, I'll wait for the inevitable price drop and then maybe I'll pick up one.
Since the original DS, I stopped being an early adopter for devices such as these because I don't want to end up with a device that's basically DOA as far as 3rd party publisher/developer support goes.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
It will be doomed as it not what people want anymore. Yes it is powerful and the graphics are awesome, but look at the titles available on a iPhone or Android powered phone and you see the very meaning of mobile gaming. 69p games that sell 10s of millions of copies rather than a £40 game.
I'd much rather stump up 69p than £40 knowing I can have just as much fun, if not more and have a far better pick up and play experience.
In short - good kit but already outdated and ultimately doomed to fail
PS - if it's selling shit in Japan as Brisk has said, then it stands no real chance in the West

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
Mobile games are the very definition of shite though, Angry Birds aside.
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
They aren't by definition shit. They are usually not created by large professional studies with years of experience and a budget that spans millions of dollars. If you compare that to games that are created by triple-A grade studios, then yes, they may seem like crap. However, most triple-A titles aren't 100 times more fun than mobile games, while the pricing seems to suggest they are.
And if you think Angry Birds is the pinnacle of mobile gaming, then I suggest you update your mobile game library a bit. There's tons of games out that blow Angry Birds out of the water.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
why would a moron buy something like this when they have phone games now?...
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
I'll stick to my 3DS... For now. The only game that even has be a little interested is Uncharted. But I have my 3DS, and Mario was fucking A-MAZE-INK and I have Resident Evil to look forward to that the other half got me for meh' birthday. I'll be fucked if I'm gonna stump up that sort of cash for something that will get played as much as my PSP did... i.e. a few days, then shelved...
Now, if it was hacked and emulators ran on it in full res glory with smoother frame rates... Well thats another matter. And yes, I would drop some cash on it then. But not at the price it is now, not when my 4S plays emulated games smooth enough (just with shitty controls).

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
also...why would a grown man buy a portable game machine? that shit is in the same league as child molesting...creepy...
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
It would help a lot if the Vita could play PSP games and possibly if you could download PS1/PS2 games for it as well (out of the box I mean, without needing to install hacked firmwares on it). That would at least give the device some backing in terms of games you can play on it.o'dium wrote:Now, if it was hacked and emulators ran on it in full res glory with smoother frame rates...

go fuck a kid u fucking pervert...
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
I like to do my gaming in the highest possible graphics fidelity (pc), and I don't have the need to game "on the go".
Well, except wordfeud, mebbe.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
Like what? I have a port of Canabalt which is pretty good, but nothing else of note to compare.Eraser wrote: And if you think Angry Birds is the pinnacle of mobile gaming, then I suggest you update your mobile game library a bit. There's tons of games out that blow Angry Birds out of the water.
I just don't get mobile gaming really. Angry Birds is fun for about 10 minutes if you're on the bus/waiting around, but it's not something i'd sink hours into (I realise that is probably the point) Every other game i've tried on the Android Market has been fucking terrible. When you've played proper games on consoles and PC for 20+ years, it's hard to take shitty mobile gaming seriously. It's a complete regression in graphics, gameplay and input control. I literally piss myself with laughter when moron developers and/or publishers proclaim phone games to be the future of the industry.
Vita is at least a capable gaming machine. Personally, I'd rather play that on a train/bus/plane than some crappy Android game for hours.

relevant: some guy is mad about choices Sony have made.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
i was gonna post something else, but while walking home from work i started to think of lots of cases when you're right. like 360/ps3 sales and a whole heap of other cases. so yep, donny what are you on about?
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
The original PSP did shit in the west. It sold like crazy in the East. You can thank Monster Hunter for that.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
Well historically when a new Japanese system is launched in Japan, it sells like cakes that are hot. This is not the case with this new system...so as the original PSP has not done amazingly well in the US/Euroland but it sold amazingly in Japan it stands to reason (ish) that it selling shit in Japan is a sign it will do even worse in US/Euroland...Memphis wrote:wut?Don Carlos wrote: PS - if it's selling shit in Japan as Brisk has said, then it stands no real chance in the West
It is just a guess given previous PSP related sales stuffs

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
There's a dedicated Playstation Vita showroom on Oxford Street just up from where I work. I may pop in to have a look, but I've pretty much given up on the idea of mobile gaming. I much prefer reading my Kindle during my daily commute.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
man somebody should've told sony that cheap games for phones and tablets exist now
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
too true.
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
uhm, am I missing something here? on what planet is this portable powerhouse trying to compete with shitty phone app games?
better controls , surely better and more in depth games etc. you don't get that on a cellphone.

Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
That may not be Sony's intent, but in reality, that is what it kind of boils down to. The portable playing field is no longer Nintendo vs Sony. While the 3DS and Vita are on a completely different level than mobile platforms (such as Android and iOS), I do believe that the space 3DS and Vita fill are also occupied by mobile phones.Tsakali wrote:uhm, am I missing something here? on what planet is this portable powerhouse trying to compete with shitty phone app games?
Unless someone's a true hardcore gamer who gets a 3DS or Vita because they are dedicated gaming platforms, that someone probably won't feel the need to buy a "gaming thingy they can take with them" because they already have a mobile phone, which to them already is a "gaming thingy I can take with me".
Then there's also the fact that they get their mobile phone relatively cheeply (or even for free) with their mobile subscription plan (I know, it's never free, but the costs are hidden so it appears to be free) and these games they can download for it are in the range of free to 5 quid. They can buy like 100 mobile games for the price of one 3DS or Vita game.
Re: The Playstation Vita Thread
What Eraser said. Unless the target audience for this thing is kids too young to own a cellphone - and it's not.
Also i found this glowing review over at Wired (i occasionally read Wired when i'm in the mood for eye rolling and head shaking, they're so consistently wrong about nearly everything it's amazing) so it's likely to be a rubbish bit of kit that won't sell worth a damn:
