Tell Google to forget you

Post by Eraser »

Google's introducing a new privacy policy. Under this new privacy policy, they're combining all data from different services into one single database linked to one Google account.

Up until now, you can clear the history Google's keeping on you, but when the new privacy policy is coming into effect, you can no longer do this. So it may be a good idea to clear your history if you're not comfortable with Google knowing about your secret fetishes and kinky obsessions. Clearing your history will also "pause" their history recording machine for you.

The EFF has some instructions on how to do this. As that articles states though, it is important to note that disabling web history doesn't mean Google can't and won't still record this data on you. However, when disabling web history, Google does anonymize the data after 18 months.

I disabled my web history a few years back. I remember back then it was a bit more difficult to disable it, too. Man, I hate privacy policies.

Google knew you didn't want them tracking your porn browsing habits. How nice of them! :)

Same. My work account doesn't support it and my personal account had no history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Google's data only has to do with what you search for with google, right?

And how does that combine with my Google account? It's not like you sign in to Google to search...

Ahhh... gotcha.

Guess it's a moot point anyway, because mine was already turned off.
