Ah, i am confused about two things i see, indeed Ubisoft is the target of my rage and also it was AC2 that i played, not the first.

I'll consider picking 3 up in a sale if i see one tbh, i quite enjoyed the whole climbing stabbing running stuff and i read somewhere the savegame thingie is much better. Just pissed me off so much that it deleted my save, never found the will or the energy to start over

As a guy who LOVED the first, but gave up half way into the second because it was more of the same and never even bothered with the others, this one has my interest. Why? Because its different enough to look like I should give it a go.

Not sure what your problem with save games was, but a savegame getting lost or corrupt is obviously an incident that shouldn't have happened. While it's frustrating, it shouldn't cloud your judgment of the games, because especially brotherhood is a very well made game.

I think what fueled my anger was the fact that it was a retarded DRM related issue, originally you had to be online in order for the game to be able to save. The PC player community thought this was completely ridiculous and there was much fan outrage at the time it came out, it didn't take long for Ubi to patch it. Thing is, they patched it wrong and there were loads of people who inexplicably lost their savegames at some point. As far as i could tell they never bothered to fix it particular issue either, since it only affected something like 10% of the total player base. Which is still a huge number of people... for laughs, google something like "AC2 deleted save" and be amazed at how many people got upsetted.

Really enjoyable game though, i agree. It's just that when you're almost done and you get to start all over again, it tends to be a little frustrating. Might replay one day though, dunno...

I wasn't really interested in the first place, unless that trailer had something jaw-droppingly awesome in it to pull me back in. I got my kicks from the first and it wore off halfway through the second. I never did finish it, but that may be because I only rented it.

As someone who is privy to the inner workings of the AC 3 story - and as a well-known murkuh basher - I can guarantee you are 100% incorrect. It's simply another setting and another historical timeframe in the ongoing story of the Templars vs the Assassins and their particular goals.

I read this article on the PA Report about how in each AC game, every story-driven kill the protagonist (Altaïr or Ezio) makes is done in a way that it's historically accurate: the kill is made in the right place at the right time. I find the historical accuracy of AC2 and AC:B to be fascinating and it really got me interested in the whole Borgia family affair papacy thing.

The article also talks about how very few high profile people died during the American civil war so that this posed a problem. It sounded like they went for slightly less high profile assassination targets to be able to stay true to history. I'm afraid that this may make the game's historical setting somewhat less interesting.

Also, many of the buildings you climb in AC2 and ACB are real buildings that are world famous. How many buildings were there in America in that time era that are world famous now? Not many I think? So this all makes me worry that the setting will fail to impress me. I sincerely hope I'm wrong though.

There's people here saying things like a game not being worth their money because the FOV is wrong and you're calling me shallow? Right.

The way the story is integrated into historical events is a huge part of the AC series. Sure, they may have nailed it on the head for this new game time, but I'm just not so sure the American civil war will appeal all that much to me. Because of the same reason I'm not as interested in AC1 or AC:Revelations. They are valid questions to ask. I'm not writing off the game, I'm just pondering how and if they can make AC3 as interesting from a historical POV as AC2/ACB. Also, I dont know how it's in the US, but here in the Netherlands we get barely any education on the subject of the US civil war.
