will it have mouse and keyboard?
Re: Valve is making a console
It's not a console. It's a set top pc... That's all. Totally pointless... It still runs pc games... What's the point of this? The only advantage it had was that it should have a set spec, meaning that of games can have the same advantage as consoles... But anybody can licence and make it, with any tech?
Making it just a pc... May as well just print off valve stickers and slap it on the side of my case...
AND STILL NO EPISODE 3?!? *sighs*

I'm all for it. If everyone used the same rig for gaming, it would make compatibility problems disappear for devs. Assuming we's have both controller and mouse & k/b support, I'm game.

Re: Valve is making a console
A fixed, unified spec, which is good for 3+ years is probably what the PC gaming market needed actually. I know it kinda defeats the concept of PC's being modular in the first place, but for gaming, it'll be nice just to have a high-end base spec that can bring about better looking games without the need to update for ages. Developers will appreciate it more too + there's no license fees to pay to the likes of Sony/MS.
Add a steam front end, giving everyone an easy place to buy the games from and you've got yourself a good, mainstream pc gaming box. In fact, he clearly states that he wants Steam to be as synonymous with gaming as Android is with phones/tablets. Basically getting the current nerd pc market and expanding it into the mainstream. Being able to use it for more than just gaming (with proper mouse/kb support) would be handy too.
Obviously you can do all this with a decent PC now anyway, but this is squarely aimed at the console gamer who is interested in PC gaming, but can't afford/be bothered with all the shit that comes with it. PC gamers can still run the games on Steam and everyone can play together. Win/win. And yeah, Half Life 3 would certainly seal the deal.
Still, on the other hand, the next-gen consoles are probably just around the corner and they've already got established services like PSN/XBL already installed. Razer pretty much had the same concept with that laptop they just brought out too. More competition can only be a good thing though.

Re: Valve is making a console
So a steam gui option or OS where I can put it on my media center and easily control it with a controller and it won't be shit.
Re: Valve is making a console
PC's don't need this, please stick to dumbing down consoles, k thx.

I've already seen countless of nerds oozing all over this. They seem to fail to realize it's an imaginary building. Also, they fail to realize that my imaginary building is 17 kilometers tall.

Focal Science is 17 kilo. tall? Must've been on a very low floor then, since the ground can easily be seen at the beginning.Eraser wrote:I've already seen countless of nerds oozing all over this. Who needs choice if you can have someone else choose for you, right?
