Prog or Plugin for converting pic formats (bmp to tim)

Post by monaster »

Has anyone of you guys ever come across a program, an application or a plugin that is able to convert 24bpp bitmaps into A1R5G5B5 16 bpp .TIM files (if so at best without much of a quality loss)? If anyone feels like it, he can take on the challenge of searching the web for such a program, but I'll guarantee finding this will give you a hard time. I've searched for quite a while and couldn't find anything that could do this, that's why I'm asking the pros here, maybe one or the other has heard of such a prog, would be awesome.

What is a .tim file? Sounds like some proprietary format.

What are you trying to do? To me, it sounds like a homebrew project for the old Playstation.

I have not tried and tested the file formats.. e.g. if its 24bpp or whatever. But it did run under win7 and it has a menu where you can convert to TIM from BMP.

Yeah, .TIM is often used for Playstation 1 and PSX files (TextureIMage think of it this way). TimViewer is one of the few tools out there that can convert back into .TIM format, but it won't

. It's going to be needed for a major MOD for a well-known game :paranoid:

I'm sure converting .tims and using them in your own project is breach of copyright. not sure though.

^Looks like it. :p
@fKd: I knew you'd guess right. ;)
@ailmanki: Thanks for the link, I'll check if it is of any use.
@all:Yes, we (TEAM96) are working on a total conversion of Resident Evil 2, here's the link to keep you updated, if anyone's interested. I know some of you are. And this time, it's no "yo I changed two hex offsets, you've got more ammo and another player model ain't that cool" MOD, this one - Resident Evil: Distant Memories - is created by some of the most die hard fans of the classic Resident Evil games willing and skilled enough to mod the hell out of Resident Evil 2.

@ailmanki: Can't believe this thing actually worked (I've searched through so many tools that I've almost given up hope), but it did. It's not perfect but it's better than the results we were able to get with our earlier programs and that's what is most important, so thanks a lot!
And if anyone else happens to stumble upon some dev tools or some fan made plugins, tools etc. that have been created for the same purpose, please don't hesitate to provide a link for it. :paranoid:
