Because, Googletan, this particular VFD has extraordinarily crappy documentation, especially when it comes to defining the format for the command specifier byte. That and the "tech support" engineer's advice to me was "read the manual".
I wanted to just use a CAN module, but NOOOO, you have to use SYPT to do that, and that doesn't appear to be compatible with the 9853 module I'm using. Plus it's a static parameter configuration, which I don't want to get locked into. I TOLD THEM, I TOLD THEM ALL THAT CANOPEN WOULD SUCK. AND I WAS RIGHT!
