just spent 30 minutes on that picture... awesome stuff. But it's not a 61 GP camera,it's a composite of thousands of images... so your argument is invalid.
the 50 GP camera can pretty much do what it took them months to put together, is a single shot.

AFAIK 3D scans use laser scanners, so I wouldn't think it has a direct application.
