Looking for Quake 3 Arena's "plasmagun's" MOD Color Change?

Post by uzi9mmauto »

I looked under the Forum Search and didn't find what i was looking for. Where would I find the MOD for Q3A's Plasmagun that will change it from its 'ice blue' to a better color? It would really be badass to see everything Metal and concrete to glow red instead of blue when firing! I even tried on google-but I am 99% sure that someone reading this - knows where to find it.
Thanks! >:D

I would think it would involve changing the appropriate .shader file in one of the pk3s.
you'l only be able to use this in offline matches tho.

I don't think it's just a change of the .shader file. Maybe for the Plasmagun model itself (although I guess that requires a texture change, not a shader change) but for the marks left on the wall you need to change code, because those are greyscale textures that are colorized by the programming code.

I don't know about a mod that lets you change the plasma gun glow colour to whatever you want (a la railgun colour mods like Instagib+), if that's what you're looking for, I'd like to find such a mod myself, though the PC I have now won't run Q3 cause it's got no graphics card, only on-board graphics, but there is a mod of sorts called Lost Arena that features a plasma gun that has a pink glow effect instead of the light blue one.

What I found before when I looked into it, is changing the colour of the plasma glow is not as simple as changing a shader cause part of the glow colour is painted on the rest of the plasma gun skin surrounding the glass chamber. You'd need a new plasma skin to do it and have it look as good as the original. I suppose someone with the know-how could modify the original skin to change the area of the skin that's painted in the colour of the glow (around the actual glowing bit, not the glowing bit itself) to be changeable by a shader.

I changed the grenade colour, you can have some fun with that if you want:

Mike Martin made a few weapon skins (all the way down) but it may not be what you're looking for? If the server doesn't support the files, it won't work online.
Most of the time these files will be used for movies.

The mark for Plasmagun (it's even also mark for Railgun) isn't grayscale, it's exactly colored by the authors in an image editor and added alpha channel to blend the mark on the wall... I'm sure it's designed for blend the mark full bright on a dark wall, but never tested that... While this mark is also used by Railgun, it's colored with railgun color you've set in your config by the engine. Like you use the recolor feature in the image editor...
