got a 92 on the asvab (based on percentages, so I was in the top 8%) and passed my meps physical and had a job lined up for human intel for the army but being unmarried and having a kid disqualified me until I marry....didn't know they didn't allow single parents in the military....andyman or whoever else probably knows more about this, but it was news to me. Everything was lined up, had the date set of when to go to Fort Leonard Wood for basic and Fort Huachuca for advanced training after that. I have friends that are grunts and they were telling me as human intel I can grow facial hair on deployment (cause apparently middle eastern men are more likely to talk with guys that have a beard?) and they were jealous cause they said usually only special forces can do that haha. My recruiter originally said not to worry about being a single parent if I keep my mouth shut, but the background check detectives are very thorough (they went so far as to meet my parents, who live 250 miles away, at Starbucks for an interview then my parents caught him looking through their home windows 30 mins later to make sure they lived where I said they did haha). I can't really hide anything when I need top clearance for something like human intel....they're very thorough - they interviewed neighbors old and present, friends old and present, past/current teachers, and even classmates. They might even be reading this right now :shifty eyes:

missed out the government paying 30k for student loans :( and potentially decent money in a highly trained field. Though the signing bonus was $12 grand and $30 grand for student loans, I have about $30 grand in student loans anyway so as far as I'm concerned I missed out on $42 grand :( It was just a Reserves job so it's not like I couldn't have an every day job after training was completed and probably wouldn't have even been deployed. Not to mention dropping Human Intel for the US Army on a resume would look pretty sweet...Say what you want about the US military, but if you're smart there are decent opportunities to be had....so it seems anyway since I couldn't do it.

Semencan is "sub-literate" because he can't read Mazda's post explaining that those aren't his friends.
