2 Bridges

Post by insanet »

Hey guys, so i have these 2 maps with 1 bridge each one, i planned to build a whole level around them but then got lazy, so im gonna gave them away to people who can finish the job or make something cool with them, im looking for experienced mappers. (i do this for some "quality control" reasons).

They were made with q3radiant199, they are not "optimized", have a lot triangles, also they are made with q3 entities, no md3 models.

These bridges were made as close as posible to real CAD designs that were gifted to me by my cousin who is a civil engineer, so these bridges actually exist in real life. search for "atumpampa puente" in google images if you want to see one of them in real life.

They are not packed, it will take me probably a week to make a ZIP file, with all the required files.

Nice. Could work for something like Urban Terror (a counter-strike style mod for Q3). The sad truth is that realistic environments almost never make a good Q3 map.

All maps have potential for tricking in Defrag, so the better they look the... better! 8)

I can probably do a conversion to optimized models if you're interested.

would be nice, though im not the world most skilled mapper in the world, this would be a huge help in both inspiration and technics. if you would be so kind to optimize it i would be very grateful. though you are not obligated to do it for me ;) it seems that he never posted a link to the files? it's not that iomportant, would be a nice kick start :)

That seems like a weird way of doing things. Do you not have a place to host the file or is there some reason why you want to restrict who uses the maps?

why is weird?, wouldnt be lame if i post a public link and the next day is posted in lvlworld just as it is without any item placement and just 1 spawn position?. anyway in my profile my real email is public, i dont have any problem if ppl want to contact me directly to my email.

I'm just saying that it would be easier to include a readme file with a description and terms of use, something along the lines of:
Bridges by insanet

Unfinished maps of two bridges that I would like to have someone else finish. Please feel free to create a functional map or remix it as you see fit, as long as I am mentioned in the credits as the original author.
It's your map so do what you like with it, but I think doing this would give it a better chance of someone wanting to pick it up and doing something interesting with it. Just my two cents.

insanet, you could do like obsidian says and release it under a Creative Commons license. Their website has a tool in which you can say "i want others to be able to do this, this and this with my work" and it'll show you the appropriate CC license for that. If you select one of the Creative Commons "BY" licenses, people who use your work are obligated to credit you as the author of the bridges themselves.

Does that stop anyone from just going ahead and ripping off your work without giving credit? No. But it does make them look very, very bad if someone finds out. Especially once people see that the original work was released under a CC license which would've allowed the author to do what he intended to do anyway, but just had to give you credit for your work.
