Are you getting it for DH or just as an all-around? I used to have a Giant X-country, reminds me of this ride. Back shock had a lock on it to make climbs not as painful. I thought you were a road bike guy?

They're hydraulic. I've got some top end brakes on my scott now so i'm going to cherry pick the best parts and swap them over.

Not a big fan of DH, I have a job and kid so don't fancy spending any extended time in hospital. There's a load of us that run up and down the UK hitting the trail centers and finding random runs in the lake district, wales and scotland.

I've got it for £3k Plus i'll get £700 for my 2009 Scott. Some of these bikes go up to £8k, and road bikes are even more.

Plus, WTF Andy. How much did you spend on that car knowing every modification devalues it?

big differences between cars and bikes. I don't think I need to point those out... plus i used to actually drag race the car. Since I stopped a few years ago, I haven't put a single modified part on it.

if you've got the money to spend, no big deal, i do the same with my hobbies.
I had bought a cheap mountain bike a couple months ago to get me around town while the car was down. After a month, I fixed the car and sold the bike. If I was planning on competing in a tri or duathalon, I would have bought a better/more specific bike (and probably will in the future). So... what races are you going to be competing in?



Does the super expensive bike make the overall experience different somehow? Would having more skill take the place of a better bike, or does a lesser ride hold you back and if so, how are you measuring the amount it is repressing your talent?

not TRYING to hassle you, but IMO unless you are competing or planning to compete, I do not see the point of dropping $6k on a downhill bike. despite it being a cool looking bike.

It's not expensive, it really isn't. And having skill has nothing to do with crossing 40 mile of singletrack/animal track without damaging your back. I don't race, too old now. It's for fun and fitness.
