BTW, GD mods... after you split the spam topic to A&M, can you delete the rest of the thread? We only need one "will it work with iPad" thread and you already ruined it by moving the original to A&M.

scared?, we'll keep your name on file in case we ever open up a Willie Nelson or housekeeping sub-forum.

idk. most of the genuine new users are people asking questions about Q3 and the void is this site's unwashed arsehole, they'll want to be getting to GD/LEM/Q3D - and it potentially means a lot of work for the mods that they shouldn't have to do.

since we're making suggestions, how about updating phpbb? the theme would be a bit of a ballache to convert and some folks will ask for extras like a ladyphone-compatible stylesheet (that could safely be ignored) - but a newer version will have much better anti-spam features and less vulnerabilities overall. this place doesn't seem to be running any significant hacks/mods. if it makes it seem a better proposition (and someone can get FTP access to upload new files) i don't mind sorting the theme out over christmas (or whenever) so that it's ready to upload as soon as the new phpbb is in place.

Nah bad idea. I think LEM, programming discussion and Q3/QL discussion are still seeing registers by bonafide newbies.

Also, I could mod programming discussion and Q3/QL discussion. Especially the former. I think only misantropia still actively mods that and even he's not around a lot anymore (in fact, haven't seen him around at all lately)

MKJ could update phpbb and make a mobile site. We wouldn't even have to pay him.

Is there no Captcha thing available on this phpBB? Or an option for a randomly selected question from a small list of questions, of which none the bots can answer, to validate registration?

"Who is the leader of this clan?"
"What was the first map released with q3test back before you even came out?"
"Why are you here?"

That should do it.

I say we give a 15% raise over what we currently pay him.

I don't split, I move the first post by the bot and delete the rest. We don't need 13 separate threads by the same bot in a&M.

On that note, much appreciated if y'all don't reply to bot created threads. If there are replies I have to go to the mod panel and delete the thread, instead of just clicking the delete-button on the post in question.

I'd vote for an update to phpbb, assuming it wasn't too hard to do. Hell, who here really cares about keeping reg dates and postcounts? We could just start from scratch if it's easier, though that may involve losing threads as well... :offended:

I'd also vote for using better Capcha shit, like what mrd said.

Or... we could always abandon Q3W to start a new site and just point everyone in that direction. It happened before, and I'm sure there are plenty here willing to foot the miniscule bill required to get a new site up and running, myself included. But that'll never happen again, I'm sure. Not sure, though.

OH MY GAWD WHAT SHOULD WE DO

I'd thank anyone who has nothing else to do with their life/time but mod a dead gaming forum.

Thanks in advance.

I'm around, I just don't post that much anymore. I'd be happy to pass on the torch though.

I still think you're a good fit for Programming Discussions. None of your sections are particularly high traffic anyway.
