G is easy to calculate. You find the acceleration and then divide it by acceleration due to gravity. 0-60 in 1.8 is 33.3 mph per second or 1.52g. F1 cars pull around 4g in corners.Κracus wrote:I heard about this from random reviews I'd heard of it. I can't really find anything but if you find any youtube vid (which incendentally after watching I CAN confirm it does 0-60 in 1st gear) however it takes roughly 3-4 seconds to get to 60 (it claims 2.4ish).
I think sitting still, sure it can do it but actually moving I'm skeptical. F1 racecars don't go 0-60 in 1.6 seconds (which is what they're saying btw, not 1.8)
I'm not even sure actual Drag cars go 0-60 that fast.... I wonder exactly how many G's one would experience going 0-60 in under 2 seconds. There has to be a formula or something to calculate this isn't there? I'm no math wiz.
Top Fuel dragsters do 0-60 in 0.5 seconds which is 120 mph per second or 5.45g.

There is just so much wrong in this post I don't know where to start. Seriously...just stop with your "I'm skeptical" crap because you don't seem to know enough about why you're skeptical, let alone present a skeptical argument based on fact. If the Tea Party were in Canada you'd be their spiritual leader: Truthiness is the only knowledge you need.Κracus wrote:I heard about this from random reviews I'd heard of it. "Random reviews"...none of which anyone's ever heard of. Is there anyone on this board or anyone they know that has heard that the makers of the Veyron are full of shit? That any of the performance numbers they claimed weren't reached? That they didn't create exactly the car that they said they would? Didn't think so.
I'll just say this: dragsters go from 0 - 325 MPH in 3.8 seconds...you can bet they hit 0 - 60 MPH in 1.8 seconds or less.

Sorry but that's exactly my point: the Veyron has indeed lived up to expectations in every area that it claimed it would excel (0-60, top speed, etc).Κracus wrote:Fine, we'll see what's what when the car hits the streets.
I, too, look forward to what's what when the car hits the streets, because it'll be exciting for anyone who doesn't have a predisposition against it.

Κracus, you are a car person so this shouldn't be too difficult.
The Buagatti uses a twin clutch system so the next gear is always preloaded to there is no real dip in power. The gear change takes 1/10 of a second, hence the power to shift a heavy car like that from a stand still quickly.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xe7p0w ... shortfilms
Check the car off the line...it is freakish (sorry about the adverts)
The next car with more power (600bhp!!!) and less weight (250kg!!!) so the next limiting factor is the gearbox and propshafts.
In short, it is quicker than you can possibly imagine. I will get the chance to go in a car that accelerates as quickly to 100mph as the Veyron soon so I will get a video of my face when I get in it.

I love the way you will not hesitate for a second to let people know you have no idea what you're talking about. That would be an amazing experience. Those shifters are paddle shifters and the gears are basically electronically loaded to shift when you pull the paddle. I am sure however that the veyron will reach 60 on 1st. Anything under 2 seconds though has me a bit skeptical unless it's like a drag racer. an F1 racecar pound for pound I'd imagine has to be faster than a veyron in acceleration, it's what they're built to do unlike the veyron which is a vehicle built for the road.
I watched the topgear episode where they had the veyron last week. It's an impressive vehicle but I think once this new one hits the road, assuming they actually make what they say they're making, I doubt we'll be seeing 1.6 0-60 times.

I had never heard of this car before until I watched this a couple weeks ago.
Impressive.

Off the line plenty of things will beat an F1 car to about 10mph on the basis of them not having launch control or traction control of any sort. The Veyron has 4 wheel drive, launch control and loads of other gadgets to help it get away off the line as efficiently as possible. As for when moving then the Veyron wouldn't hold a candle to the F1 car.Κracus wrote:Don Carlos wrote:Κracus, you are a car person so this shouldn't be too difficult.

By 10mph I meant 100mph
Put a 2005 F1 alongside anything and it would get monstered

Re: Super Veyron to hit 288mph and rumoured to do 0-62mph in 1.8
I dunno man... as much of an extravagance as the Veyron is, I wouldn't be surprised if it could pull 0-60 in 1.6. The thing is a fucking machine. My stupid jeep can reach 60 in probably 8 or 9 seconds, why the hell can't a 2 million pound super-car do it in 1.6? I'm sure every single facet of its construction has been considered in this. In general, 1.6s is a good amount of time.
Good to remain skeptical, but I'd be willing to bet that the Veyron can do this. Hell, look at that last video where Top Gear takes it up to 430kph or whatever the fuck. How much energy is being expended going from even 400kph to 420kph? The faster you go, the harder it is to go faster. The fact that that machine was designed and was able to pull off power gains at that fast of a speed is nothing short of fucking mind blowing.
Anyway, how long would a tank of gas last at this new one's speed? 1 minute?
EDIT: Also, I think of major concern relating to its 0-60 time is the shit-ton of torque this thing has. I'm not a car buff, but isn't that a major factor in the ability of a car to go very fast in a short amount of time? I know torque is somehow related to RPMs, not really sure in what manner, but, reading this quote:
I mean, the tires may as well grow spikes and dig themselves into the bloody asphalt at this amount of torque. Fuckin' ludicrous.

(http://www.insideline.com/bugatti/veyro ... eyron.html)A McLaren F1 has 479 pound-feet of torque which, as anyone who has driven one will tell you, is more than adequate. The Veyron, however, puts out 922 lb-ft, or very nearly twice as much.
I mean, the tires may as well grow spikes and dig themselves into the bloody asphalt at this amount of torque. Fuckin' ludicrous.

Re: Super Veyron to hit 288mph and rumoured to do 0-62mph in 1.8
A 26-gallon tank of gas lasts the Veyron 12 minutes at top speed. That like 3 MPG.mrd wrote:Anyway, how long would a tank of gas last at this new one's speed? 1 minute?
It takes the Veyron 1 second to travel the length of a football field. Your brain takes 80 miliseconds to process sensory input from your body. That means (assuming my terrible math skillz didn't fail me) that when you're driving that beast at top speed, you're actually 24 feet further up the road than you think you are.
