How many people do you know that are into guns?
How many people do you know that are into guns?
In my entire life, counting my entire family and all the people I have ever been or currently am friends with, I have only ever known one person who is into guns. He has a 22 calibre rifle for shooting rabbits and other wild animals on his farm, and he's had it since we were in high school. Every single other family member or friend I have ever had has had absolutely zero interest in guns, and most think people who are into them are a bit weird.
Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

I have a buddy who likes to target shoot. He has a couple of handguns.
Almost all the people I know have no interest in guns.
I think it's different for non-Americans as we haven't been brainwashed into being dribbling idiots on this issue.

I work with quite a few people who collect militaria and guns and stuff, a few of them are into WWII and Vietnam LARP too but I consider them to be in a different ilk to the likes of your Gwamps type fanatics. They're more into history than the idea of killing shit.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
i dont know anybody with guns
i have only ever seen a handgun on police belts and have never held one.
i would like to see how awesome a shot i'd be target shooting pinecones and shit.
* i have shot a 22 r9ifle b4 when i was a kid, the old man sent me out to the bush when i was about 11 or 12, absolutely no training at all and by myself alone lol.
i remember shooting an old metal thing and the bullets reflected back whizzing over my head, i thought it was neat!
so u see , i'm just happy to be here

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
I own a few .22 rifles and a 12 gauge shotgun that were my dad's (I grew up shooting them). I'd buy a nicer gun or two of my own for target shooting if I didn't live in a large metro area. Ideally I'd have an AR-15, nicer 12 ga, and maybe a 1911. I don't consider them offensive or defensive weapons. They are just really fucking fun to shoot.
As far as people I know go, I have several who have a serious collection and probably 75% own or have a positive view of guns. Many of the serious owners are current or ex military. Many are hunters. The father of one of my friends used to have the kind of arsenal a small army would be proud of (I'm not exagerating. We're talking .50 cal turret mounted machine gun and an array of assault rifles and pistols plus a full ammo reloading setup. Divorce hit him hard though.) but he had a professionally built gun range on his property dug into a very large hill. Seeing a .50 cal machine gun cut through a junk car with tannerite taped to it is pretty awesome.
Where I'm from, you grow up with guns and not hunting is seen as weird.

I live in Kentucky so everyone. Even someone like me that doesn't own guns still shoots a few times a year.
Shooting is pretty fun, if someone ever offers you, take them up on it.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
Like here's a typical scenario, happened a few months ago. Me and some buddies were headed out to another guy's farmland about 20 miles out of the city to go catfishing. We show up and hear gunshots, so of course we drive to them. The guys we were meeting were down by the river bed putting holes in logs and some beer bottles with a .357 with the longest damn barrel I've ever seen and some glock 9mm, a 17 maybe. They were killing time before we got there, and before we went fishing we had a go on this guy's revolver. That thing made a boom, I tell ya. Then we went fishing and smoked.
Average day where I end up shooting a gun unexpectedly. Other days we specifically go to someone's land out of the cities to waste some ammo.

I have a friend who is a cop. I'm not sure if he is allowed to carry his sidearm home though, pretty sure he locks it up at work. So not counting him, zero people I know own guns.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
Living in the "bible belt" of the US, I think most people I might call friends own guns and are, of course, very defensive about the issue. My father owns a gun, and at least one of my brothers owns one. In the case of my family members that own guns, it's for "self defense." That strikes me as a little paranoid, to be honest, and unrealistic. Most others I know go on about the constitution to defend their gun ownership. I think people forget easily that the constitution was created to be amended and isn't some holy scripture that's perfect on everything it says. But I digress. I've discussed this stuff way too much in the last couple of days.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

i have never fired a gun, though i know people who have (in other countries). i don't know anyone who owns a gun
then again, i live in the UK, where everyone believes a 30 round clip can last for a minute and a half on full auto because they saw it in movies

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
Lots of people. Ranging from normal people who hunt/target practice to end of the world nutjobs with CCW permits who horded ammo for their AR-15's when Obama was elected. Like bitwise said, its all about where you grew up. I spent my teenage years in rural Minnesota until I moved out at 18 and reintegrated myself back into regular civilization.
Its a luxury we all have as Americans and I would certainly give up whatever right I had to buy a handgun for the possibility of saving innocent lives in the future. I think it would be crazy to value the right of owning one type of gun over that.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
Coming from western redneck Canada I have fired several different types of guns - even a musket loader - and have gone hunting and target shooting on many occasions...but all of it when I was a young kid who didn't know any better with a gun-nut step father. I've been target shooting since, but haven't hunted since I was 12.
I know several people with guns. All of those people have rifles for hunting and target shooting and none of them have handguns. I know only two people who think they need them for protection....and both of them are sovereign citizens and neither will listen to reason from all their friends or family. In fact, they've both completely withdrawn from anyone who challenges them on their ideology. No disussion...just complete disownment and breaking of ties...doesn't matter who it is friends or family. They tell us to "open our eyes" but refuse to do so themselves. They're probably both sociopaths, IMHO and it's probably why I have such stong opinions on the matter, because it can ruin relationships.
Like I said, you can't convince a nutter that the voices in their head aren't real and you can't convince a gun-nut they don't need a gun...because both have a screw loose.

Nobody, really.
My late uncle who lived in Texas had a rifle or two. I know one person here in California with a gun. A chick in her 20's with one pistol.
That's it, that I know of. Never even touched one myself.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
Up in the northern New Hampshire/Vermont area where I live, there are a lot of hunters and northern rednecks. I'd say I know about 8 people who own some sort of firearm. Only a few have handguns, and all of them own the guns for hunting. Maybe a few would claim they're also for self defense. While none of them are particularly bright individuals, only one of them is mentally challenged enough that I don't feel comfortable around him with guns nearby. He has one of those comically giant revolvers that looks like the Joker's gun, and enjoys whipping it out to impress people. Very transparent.
I've never personally owned/fired a gun, nor had any more than a passing interest in them.

Re: How many people do you know that are into guns?
I know a lot of hunters, but I've only met two or three people that were actual gun nuts. I mean serious, "have so many guns the ATF has a file on them" type gun nuts. Guess how many mass shootings they've committed? ZERO.
I can't believe that people are saying that they'd give up a constitutional right, especially under these circumstances, to possibly "save innocent lives". So, let's say handguns, or assault rifles, or whatever type of firearm you fucking weirdos think will fix the problem are banned tomorrow. Totally illegal.
Guess what changes? NOTHING. Not a goddamn thing. If you think that anything would change, you're delusional, if not just plain stupid.

Sorry Zach but you saying that you aren't sure if gun control works is roughly the same as you saying you're unsure the science is in on climate change. Either you've got a bias that facts won't change, you haven't looked into it, or you're just being willfully ignorant. The studies, facts and statistics are out there.
