Getting Unreal (the first, not UT) running in OpenGL

Post by Mogul »

I've heard that there is a patch (unofficial) that will fix Unreal's OpenGL issues. I don't remember if the patch broke it (v226 Final) or if it's just a modern video card issue, but running it in direct3d is just unbearable.

So I'm looking for the best way to get the game running in OpenGL. I've found an unofficial patch to fix it, but it said it was for ATI cards. (I have a 6800GT).

Does anyone have any information pertaining to this?

Mine only shows support for Direct3d, 3dfx, and software rendering. If there's a patch I haven't seen it.

With the latest point release (226 final) you should also have OpenGL. The problem is when you select it, the game crashes.

So you're forced to go with direct3d, and it runs like crap.

Why you're not showing openGL, I'm not for sure... but it should at least be an option.

Anyone else?

Could be that I bought Unreal Gold and it came out of the package 226. Maybe it has something to do with the update patch because it runs real smooth on Direct3d on mine. That's with a GF2 previously and an ATI now.

edit: I'll do some digging and see if I can come up with anything on it.

Hmm, yeah, I suppose that could be.

Direct3d for me runs pretty badly. I mean, I've got a pretty good system (runs DOOM 3 at high detail between 40-60 fps usually) but Unreal runs pretty poorly. Lots of artifacts and things, too.

I bought it for $5 in a bargain bin a couple of months ago but never got OpenGL to work on XP either, and it was unplayable with direct3D due to the glitches and rendering errors, so I uninstalled it.

You could just use the Oldskool mod.
