Quake3 and GeForce4 MX440
Quake3 and GeForce4 MX440
I am trying to run Quake on a computer that is using the above metioned graphics card. When i start the game the graphics are all messed up. They are blocking like some kind puzzle and the colors are all screwed up.
I've went to nVIDIA and d/l the latest drivers for GeForce, but still the same problem.
I was wondering if there was some chipset adjustment to make or maybe something in the console, that's the blue screen that come up as the game boots right? The console comes and goes so fast i can't read what it says, and i don't know how to access it. If i need to.
The game runs fine on an older GeForce card.
Hope someone can help me. I am a newb, but not completely green.
thanks

Drop down the console, ( By pressing ~ ), and enter in the command cg_usescreenshotJPEG 1
Close console,
press F11 to take a screenshot
quit Quake,
go to your quake folder and find the Screenshots Directory
grab the picture.
upload it to : http://www.imageshack.us/
then post it here

It's possible that your video card is overheating. Check to make sure that the fan on the card is still working.
I have the same card in an older system and the fan died on me. I replaced it with a new Vantec Iceberq HSF.

Also, try typing /bind F11 "screenshotjpeg" in the console, then pressing F11.
Or open the TGA file in Photoshop or whatever and then export it as JPG.

That scares me a little, because my GeForce MX 440 came with a fan and it would still cook eggs... so unless you have a monsterous heat sink...

Open up Q3 and hit the print screen key, labled Prt Scr, right beside the Scroll Lock key. Then exit quake and open MS Paint, paste the screen shot, Ctrl+V, and then save it as a jpg file.
Also it might be your AGP slot that is messed up, can you try another AGP card?

i will have to put the AGP card back in to get the screenshot of the problem i was having.
the card was in another computer and had the same problem with it, so i dont think it is the AGP slot
ok here is the screenshot.AmIdYfReAk wrote:Drop down the console, ( By pressing ~ ), and enter in the command cg_usescreenshotJPEG 1

I downloaded the only drivers I could find for my card and OS on the nVIDIA website. As far as the chipset and AGP drivers I don't know. Do you know where I can get those other drivers?YourGrandpa wrote:Yikes..... That card looks fucked.
If you've updated your video card drivers, your chipset drivers, your AGP drivers and it still doesn't work. It's toast.
I had an MX440 that didn't come with fan on it, but I installed one because I O/C.
Also this card has no problem running any other applications or games that I have except Quake. So I am still not sure why this one game won't play right.

Yeah, what chipset?
Are any of the other applications or games 3D?
riddla,
I deleted all nVIDIA drivers and installed 45.23 drivers, still the same problem. I don't understand how the graphics card could be fried if all my other game works and applications.
YourGrandpa,
How do I find out what chipset I'm running? I have Enter the Matrix on this computer and it's not working right either. It had been working fine. I think it is a 3D game. So i guess its either a chipset thing or this card just doesn't like 3D games. What's the difference between vidoe drivers and AGP drivers?
AmIdYfReAk,
This is a computer I built and the motherboard is a Shuttle AK32A

my old old geforce 2 didnt have one. and you could cook eggs on it.. AND you could burn your hand bad enough to need medical attention if you held it long enough.. yet, it ran fine..obsidian wrote:That scares me a little, because my GeForce MX 440 came with a fan and it would still cook eggs... so unless you have a monsterous heat sink...
my gfs gf4 mx420 is like that too.. dont run THAT hot, but hot enough to cook some eggs on.. no fan.. -_-
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.
