I still think BBC's coverage is better than Sky's, despite Brundle and Kravitz jumping ship. Too bad BBC has had only half of the races live, and Humphrey has decided to leave. IMHO, Humphrey was a better host/presenter than Lazenby, and McKenzie is a better (and hotter) pit lane reporter than Pinkham. Now that Thompson has left the Sky team, there's even less incentive to watch them. They may be able to amend Thompson's loss by replacing Croft with Herbert in the commentary box, but if BBC has Perry in any sorta tight leather outfits, there's really no reason to choose Sky over BBC when both of them have live coverage...

BBC was the shit in 2011, a dream team even tho the season sucked race entertainment wise. Last year if it was a BBC covered race I'd watch their build up, Sky's commentary, then the BBC post show.

Sky has a lot more stuff but the quality of what was presented wasn't as good imo. I did like the video screen thing that Ant had. Fake Jake was bad, Damon was meh, Martin and Johnny are good and Ted is alright.

I'm not sure I ever fast forwarded BBC coverage but I did it a lot when watching the sky coverage on the BBC's off races.

I didn't really like Perry's coverage of MotoGP and Jake's shoes are tough to fill so she's starting off rough in my book, but I'll try to give her a fair shot.

DC and Eddie are great of course, and Gary Anderson is alright too. Only complaint about him is sometimes he talks real quick while cars are passing in the pit lane and it's difficult to catch what he's saying.

I think that Sky’s coverage has been really good, much better than I expected in fairness. For the BBC, Jake, Eddie and DC always had something special so I always recorded and watched their coverage whenever the race was on the BBC, but I watched Sky for every single race. The Dolby 5.1 really makes a huge difference to me and my experience of watching the races. I have yet to experience the 3D yet, but I will popping over a mates and giving it a blast. I will very much be looking forward to seeing how much of a difference (if any) it makes.

Sky have Martin and Ted, both of which are worth watching it for alone. I have always loved their insight, Martin’s grid walks and Ted’s notebook are highlights for me. I did love Georgie in her tight dresses so that will be missed this year.

Gary Anderson insight into car design is mega though and EJ did an ace job getting him onboard. The articles he produces for the BBC website are fascinating and incredible detailed. You learn things from someone that had done the job of designing a car for F1 teams. Ace.

I will continue to watch both programs when I am able as they both bring something tangible and worthwhile to the table

You're totally wrong dude. Drivers have to handle high Gs for hours at a time and still maintain the concentration needed to have lap times be within 1/10 of a second of each other.

Just because they're sitting doesn't mean they aren't athletes or need to be in shape.

I'm not sure you all already know but Pirelli changed their compounds this season to make them softer again (and more shit, again) to bring some exciting manufactured racing, so tyres may play a bigger role in the positions again this season

It takes more than a fast car to compete in F1. Driving a pure bred racing car at the limit and at speed is far more physically demanding and mentally challenging than most people realize.

F1 cars are capable of pulling 5 to 6 G's at the limit under braking and cornering. Imagine dealing with that kinda forces for up to two hours during a race, while wearing several layers of fire proofing clothing, sitting in 40+° C cockpit with 70+% humidity (like in Malaysia or Singapore), and racing up to 200+ mph in close proximity to other cars and the track barriers.

Studies have also shown that the average heart rate of an F1 driver during the race is around 180 beats/min, with peaks as high as 230 beats/min.

Is it a sport? It certainly is in my book. It takes no less talent, skills, and dedication to be a top flight F1 pilot compared to other sportsmen.
