MS's Creative Director weighs in on the "always online"-approach to games and most notably the Xbox720. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news ... mours.html
They actually designed the thing to be rendered completely useless in case of internet droppage..? He's not just talking about certain services or games?
If that's the case it's going to cost them a massive amount of sales, well played.

read that, don't quite buy it.
Remember the X-Tablet "source"? it also says other sources say they have no knowledge of a required connection nor did they need one.
also, you can actually read the SDK description and while it says the device has an optional "low power mode" that will keep the internetconnection running so that it can get updates (similar to what the Wii did), nowhere does it say it's required.
Console gaming is becoming more and more convoluted. I'll opt out of the next gen. Also, it's becoming more and more sensible to not be a day one buyer for new hardware. I was with Wii and Nintendo DS, but I'm glad I waited half a year before deciding if I wanted a 3DS and not rushing out to the stores to buy a WiiU. Especially with the Wii U, shit has been published about it after the release, like content lockouts before 11pm, extreme load times, extreme update times, crappy Wii backwards compatibility, many games simply not coming to the platform, etc etc.
If this rumor turns out to be true, then fuck MS, I'll get a PS4. I'm already leaning Sony's way, anyway, since the new Xbox is rumored to require the use of the Kinect. I'm not waving my hands around like I have downs syndrome just to navigate menus when I could simply flick my thumb across a controller's analog stick.

err, the ps4 comes with their own version of kinect.
all it says is that kinect comes bundled with the console, and is required to be connected for it to function.
no sign of a mandatory kinect integration type dealio for developers like with the DS stylus way back then.

I just don't want to be forced to pay extra for a peripheral I'll never use. Or waste space hooking the thing up just to collect dust.

I remember this VS the wifi and the Xbox eventually grew one, but I think we can say it's got to the point where it takes the piss. Finding a dusty kinect and wiimote is quite common with my lot and would much prefer however little money they've spent on that given back in savings or spent elsewhere :/.
Always online tho ?, ha ha fucking ha. If Sony have any funny ideas (which you know they will) and this is true then I think we should force SEGA into making consoles again. At gunpoint if need be.
I can't see them being that stupid though, unless everyone's like the employee that went from being an asshole to looking the clown, lol tit.

someone might not be getting his yearly bonus.
They aren't denying an always online requirement either...
