Who's into LED home lighting?

I have near completed extensive home renovations in the order of $15k but who counts these days

I purchased some LED lighting strips off the internet* seems like weeks ago and took a short video

* worked out; hundreds of dollars saved

Placed in an overhead bulkhead and put there, replacing 2 x 100w incandescent bulbs, just for the effect
This video makes them look too bright, but trust me, they are a shade just above subtle.
Remote control operation, so many colours and options as well

Just asking, interested, anybody else here played with LED lighting in any home renovations?

The second set if for a glassware display cabinet still under construction, just waiting custom glass shelving pieces.

I'm quite fond of them, they're usually set to a warm yellowy orangy colour, but sometimes it's fun to play with the colours. The light they emit is softish and pleasant and they give the whole space a certain ambiance.

Been thinking about strips because i quite like what my lamps do, but ideally i'd like them to respond to the same remote... which is not really possible i think. Most of the stips i looked at have a very rudimentary choice of colours which often results in harsh & unpleasant light, haven't come across one that offers anywhere near the same range as the Philips lamps. And i wouldn't know exactly where to put them.

Also the missus reacts bloody horrified every time i mention how i like Led lights and think we should get more of em, think she's afraid i might turn the place into a miniature Las Vegas

EDIT: oh, so they made an exclusive deal with Apple, you can only buy it in the Apple Store. There's an Android app as well but it's missing a couple of key features. Assholes...

I have LED bulbs in most of my lights but nothing fancy. Been trying to find a good deal on dimmable GU10s.

I put some in recessed cans on 18' ceilings. Wont have to change those ever again.

I'm all into LEDs trying to convert my whole house just having issues finding the perfect combo for my dimmer controlled rooms.

What system are you using for that? it's pretty cool, I'm a fan of a slow fade rather than the violent flicker of colors....

When finishing my basement I installed 20 recessed halogens small 50 watt GU10 bulbs in 2 zones on a dimmer. so I can dim the TV half separate from the rest of the room. 1000watts generates quite a bit of heat especially when you need to keep them running day and night. So I tested a boatload of LED bulbs and dimmers before I settled. It's much cooler in the room and we were still able to dim (not as low as incandescent but close enough)

Also experimenting with strip LEDs for under cabinet lighting in the TV area for movie lighting.

i like dimmers on pretty much everything so i use reg old incandescent bulbs and floodlight type ones. cheap and good and i like the dimming.

i like the sparkleyness of the halogen but i could never get on with heat.

i have led bulbs in the kids tablelamps theyre pretty dim and ice cold so they can get left on.

Like I said the camera (taking video) make them appear too bright They are soft & ambient.

The system is just the little remote control that comes with the strip. Yes and slow fade for me, no strobe effect at all. I might keep one colour for a week or more then (seasonally) change.

Wiring the in the second set for a glassware display cabinet today as a test as I am not making permanent just yest until the glass goes in.

I have been trying to conceal the IR sensor in an inconspicuous place and that was a little problem, overcome by some patient contemplation.

Still waiting custom that glass shelving in 5 pieces. They tell me it is heavy glass so I am wondering.

Who's into LED home lighting?

Puts hand up. I just spent £20K on a new black kitchen, bathroom, new central heating, new double glazed windows. Still some things to finish like the builder coming back to add window sills and some other bits, and I thought I'd add some bling to the kitchen. Looks like it's pretty much the same lighting as yours Whiskey. Here's some pics, and also a video where I turn the lighting on from 1:27.

Heh, LED's rarely get switched on, just a nice effect now and then when friends are around. The remote control also does the fading to other colours and epilepsy inducing saturday night fever flashing.

There's LED and then there's LED. I mean, DRuM's neon wannabe LED lighting looks hideous and tacky, but there's nothin wrong with LED lights that replace ordinary incandecent bulbs.

The cheap LEDs I got for this walkway are incredibly white but they do a cool job of highlighting the art.

Funny, you've got a black kitchen and my new office is in the same style of gloss black, custom desk etc
Even the handles look same. Mine is still a little work in progress as I have still to hang a custom wall paper mural (more later).

The painter just finished Thursday so we are having a little break from the near constant procession of trades in & out.

It will seem like they are relatives in the short term. Mine still to come back like yours for fiddly bits, custom painted pieces and knobs on order

Yes looks exactly like my lighting (remote control gave that away) and yes, it does the job pretty well for what I ( and you) wanted and like you, mine will be on occasionally, but it is there as needed for effect.
