Anyone have a nice modern dishwasher they would recommend? Mine is from 1994 or some shit and its starting to crap out. Sometimes it actually starts smoking in use! Think I'd like to go stainless or black.

depends on your budget. there is a huge price range in dishwashers. 40db is the quietest you can get from most brands. 3rd rack is nice. 1500-2k will get you a top of the line. Check out the parent company of the brand you want. So many dishwashers come from the same manufacturer with a different brand label slapped on it. Whirlpool..etc

If you're gonna be at your house a long time, get a Miele. Pricey but you'll be good for life and have an awesome dishwasher to boot.

I'd go for a name brand as it will probably last a little longer than most but there's no guarantee on that.

My current is a Meile. I had a Blanco in the previous residence and both have given no trouble; TBH, I run then about monthly, whether they need it or not: just the two of us and I don't see any point in stacking a dishwasher to the brim over a few days, then giving it a run

Go for the brand names bitWISE and don't worry about the price (difference).

Meile isn't as prominent in the US. At least not around here, unless you go to smaller specialized retailers. GE, Whirlpool, Electrolux and Bosch is what you will find.

If I was single and only did a couple dish loads a week I definitely wouldn't spend over 1k.

OP have you tried Mexicans? they're low maintenance, only smoke when in use if you allow them, and can easily be replaced when they break down. also 1994 is probably a pretty good year. any more recent models and you're just asking for trouble

I've seen a few 50 db models in my search so far. I should take a rough measure of mine, it's pretty loud. Don't really need a third rack but something to keep lightweight plastic Tupperware in order would be great (saw a kenmore with clips for them).

I'm in a condo and don't plan on being here forever so I was thinking something around 600-800 sounded good. Plus ill get a tax credit for the efficiency upgrade so that helps a little.

Actually a good quality dishwasher wont require pre-rinsing, and only uses around 3 gallons of water.

quiet is good yea but u can add quiet pad easy enough i guess if a person wanted

all the ones ive been impressed with were old ones, one in particular was a late 70's early 80's kitchen aid, that thing was a fucking beast, just a tank! one tough son-of-a-bitch!

ive only bought i think only 4 , 3 American production brands ge Frigidaire maytag and the one i have now some bosch thing.

its mediocre really, the racks are quality but they dont fit any real dishes like denby easily, the metal is higher quality than my old American brand ones also. the controls are whack i circumvent them by overusing the power button.washes ok i dont put chunks in there or anything tho, its very quiet tho.

i had a special want this time so i got this thing because it does not have a heating/drying element inside

i had found that type always inevitability baked detergent onto the dishes and that upset me

I've lived without a dishwasher in two different places and it was awful. I'm too lazy for that shit and the majority of my roommates were too which compounds the issue.
