What i want to know is how they managed to detonate the two bombs near simultaniously. Think about it, it's kinda weird; they built these really crude, do it yourself explosive devices and they found a way to 'splode em at the same time... how'd they manage that? Were the bombs on a timer? Seems akward when you have the pack on your back and you have the intention to get away, so my guess would be no. But then it must be on some kind of remote trigger, like a cellphone or a garage door opener or something like that. Which sounds rather more complicated to put together.

How did they know how to rig something like that up but totally fail at building a better device? As a small town in Texas recently demonstrated, there's better stuff to build bombs from. And that knowledge is certainly out there for any net surfing wannabe terrorist googling for instructions on how to make a detonator...

ryoki, you assume the explosions being (near) simultaneously was intended. Maybe it was just how it happened and they never intended any synchronization.

Hey hey, not questioning how it was possible at all, i'm of the opinion that if you decide to educate yourself on the topic of making bombs it'd probably be entirely possible to get working knowledge through the medium of interwebs and books. What i'm wondering about has to do with the explosion... hey, you might be able to shed some more light on it actually, what with your military experience and so on.

Here's the thing i'm not getting; the bombs seemed relatively weak. There was a big orange ball of fire, which correct me if i'm wrong, is a sign of the explosive force being inefficient, like gunpowder. There's no crater or much impact to the site where it went off, nor are there heaps of torn off limbs and dozens of casualties. It was supposed to kill by shrapnel, sure, but i get the feeling it could have been a lot more had they used different stuff. Would you agree?

Now, as i see it, they could have made something like fertilizer/diesel/bits of aluminum foil-based stuff, the procurement and creation of which (goes my reasoning) is probably a hell of a lot easier than finding a way to remotely set off two explosions at once. And that's what's i'm finding interesting, what happened there? Besides being complete fuckheads, did they not do their jihomework, or like only half of it? Why this incompetence? This shit was cool 5 years ago, haven't they noticed noone's really doing it anymore? Kids go to Syria or Mali these days.

Please note it's entirely possible i might have jumped to hasty & unwarrented assumptions concerning some of the technical details, speaking completely out of my arse as it were...

No way, of course that was intended to happen. Could have just been timers though, i imagine that would be easier to create. I can kinda put that down to inexperience. The last London attacks with the failed bombs could have been made better like and you'd think carrying out such a risky operation would have been planned to eliminate fuck ups. I thought they actually did pretty well in getting the little arsenal they had together. They had another one of those big bombs when the police were chasing them down plus they had numerous 'pipe bombs', along with the guns n ammo and whatever else the cops managed to find.
