Ok...I'll bite: what exactly IS the "point" that I'm missing?
The point was to make an open source gun that anyone could print at their house (with a 3d printer...not exactly in every home now...). They didn't want to make an ar-15. They only wanted to fire a single round from the beginning.

Ah I see...the "point" of this gun is to make a 3D printed gun. Wow...I'm glad you're here to tell us.

Actually I was totally and completely wrong...sorta. It appears the "point" of this gun isn't even on their official webpage...probably because the FBI will investigate them:
"...the goal is to demonstrate how technology can circumvent laws until governments simply become irrelevant."

"This is about enabling individuals to create their own sovereign space. The government will increasingly be on the sidelines, saying 'hey wait'. It's about creating a new world order in the crumbling shell of the old order."
The "point" of this gun is so that every paranoid, unstable, gun-loving headcase in the US can produce their own guns while hiding and preventing guns from detection and confiscation from "the gubment" and, ultimately, have each household become its own nation....or something equally insane. :dork:

Yar !, in the UK you can legally own shotty cartridges, just can't buy them. Any other live ammo you need a licence but if you're caught with this then bullets will be the least of your problems, you may as well own a proper gun like. Main benefit I think would be to avoid metal detectors, maybe ?.

edit: Arktually, If you build it without the firing pin then it should be regal, which makes the bullets the only illegal thing about the undetectable killing device. Now I want someone to make a plastic shotgun.

Could also come in handy if you can melt down a murder weapon pretty easily.
