Game of Thrones S03
Re: Game of Thrones S03
that ginger tart is starting to get annoying as fuck, and Theon's torture sequence is draaaagging...
also, can someone who's read the books explain this to me: when Tywin is threatening to send old Mrs Tyrell's gay son to the King's Guard, he says doing so would mean gayboy could never marry and the Tyrell name would die
if that's true, then why the fuck did Tywin send his only son who isn't a dwarf he despises to the same King's Guard?

Re: Game of Thrones S03
Tywin didn't send him to the King's Guard. Jaime went there to avoid another one of Tywin's forced power marriages (to Lysa Tully). Jaime just wants some sweet twin sister action, he doesn't care about anything else.seremtan wrote:also, can someone who's read the books explain this to me: when Tywin is threatening to send old Mrs Tyrell's gay son to the King's Guard, he says doing so would mean gayboy could never marry and the Tyrell name would die

Re: Game of Thrones S03
so Tywin had no say in the matter?
Re: Game of Thrones S03
Right, it was Cersei's plan to keep her brother to herself. Joff is a true heir for Tywin but obviously not a real option.

I'm hoping they get to some warm areas soon so that she can blow her nose and speak without sounding like she's got a head full of snot, like she does in the cold north.seremtan wrote:that ginger tart is starting to get annoying as fuck

i like how George R R Martin kills off characters at random to keep you guessing; i just wish he'd off some of the more annoying ones

Yeah I don't know why he didn't pick the dragon dagger back up either? He now has no weapons at all...
Re: Game of Thrones S03
the most annoying part? samwell will probably end up as one of those characters Martin *doesn't* kill off at random to illustrate the essential tragedy of existence
Re: Game of Thrones S03
I was amazed at that as well, what a goddamn useless fat cunt. How is he going to protect his mongoloid love interest now?

Do wonder what the crows were doing on that Old Gods tree. That scene might have been a tad frustrating, but that last shot of them running followed by a cloud of crows was Hitchcockian awesomeness of which i approved.
I'm theorizing that the Old Gods have magixs too, just like that Lord of Light fellow - but that their magic is less in your face stuff perhaps and more of the nature kind, with the crows and the wargs and all that. Or maybe not.

See, I'm dubious that Mellisandre's Lord of Light is the same as Thoros' and Beric's.
There were slight hints in the books that she may have had the wool pulled over her eyes about who she's really worshiping, but the TV series seems to be even more intent on defining a difference between Thoros' god and hers.
She definitely has power, but it's a much more malevolent power in my eyes.
I'm wondering if she's actually channeling some manifestation of the Darkness she keeps referring to as the enemy of R'hllor (stupid bloody name btw). Or is it even misguided personal power that is simply her own magical ability and she's attributing it to R'hllor?
After all, the dragons were supposed to have brought magic back into the world.
Really enjoying this series though. Where the previous series strayed from the books in ways I didn't like, this one, while straying as much if not more so, is obviously refining what was a bit flabby in the books and streamlining it.
I'd say a lot of the storytelling is actually better this series than in the book/s it's based on.
Like Stannis' wife.
The books take a needless amount of time to describe her as weird and creepy, yet the TV show used the hugely effective visual motif of the pickled fetuses in her quarters to let viewers know this woman ain't all there.
I will say that reading the reactions here, Sam's probably not portrayed as sympathetically as he is in the books. And I somewhat agree with your assessments of him. He's very much a fat, stupid, useless coward in the series.
They've also taken away a lot of the character's power with that last scene. I won't describe how, as it's verging on spoilertastic, but I do wonder how they're going to go forward with him now.

Re: Game of Thrones S03
It's funny that they've made Sam even more incompetent in the series.
Re: Game of Thrones S03
It's weird, because in the book the blade shattered against a wight's chainmail armor. Dragonglass is described as very brittle, so they coild've just done the same sort of thing in the series.seremtan wrote:so fatty uses his retard strength then runs off without taking the magic obsidian frosty killer

Re: Game of Thrones S03
That's a bit of a premature conclusion I reckon. For all we know his story arc could continue just like it does in the book now. The confusing thing is that they've rolled two white walker encounters into one with the TV series. They also don't seem to differentiate between white walkers and wights either. (highlight text to read it. It's not really a spoiler but I blacked it out to make xer0s happy)Mat Linnett wrote:They've also taken away a lot of the character's power with that last scene.
