Seems like a fair bit of development in Canada, both article mjrpes linked above (Vancouver, B.C.) and this one below (Waterloo, Ontario):
Blackberry co-founders Mike Laziridis and Doug Fregin have launched a $100 million dollar private fund to boost the development of Canada's fledgling quantum computing industry.

Quantum Valley Investments, based in Waterloo, Ont., "will provide financial and intellectual capital" for the development and "commercialization of breakthroughs" in quantum information science, said a news release announcing the new fund.

A statement from Laziridis and Fregin said they believe the fund will lead to the creation of new jobs and industries and help establish Waterloo as "Canada's Quantum Valley."

Yeah, coz advanced 'puters will make our lives better, right.
I'm telling you, it's not Orwell's 1984 Big Brother, it's Huxley's Brave New World predicting we destroy it all.

Regular computers used to be that size. I wonder how long it will take before quantum computers are in cell phones?

I think the cooling and shielding is what makes it so huge. Might not be able to get away from that as easily as better manufacturing alone.

Yeah, well there was a time when we thought it was impossible to make vacuum tubes smaller. Just sayin'. ;)

why should it be in cell phones? cloud computing is the way to go.
