I stumbled upon some alpha-ish videos of this yesterday. Apparently, it's a spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2. There was a Kickstarter campaign for it late last year, so I guess it's been in development for a few months now. Not sure how far from release it is, but you can get "early access" if you buy the game now [$22 on Steam].

It's being developed by Subterranean Games [never heard of 'em before this]. Peter Molyneux is not involved as far as I can tell.
Thought some of you might be interested in this.
War for the Overworld
Re: War for the Overworld
A game you can only see properly in the dark... I'll watch the video when it's dark
Re: War for the Overworld
It looks like a carbon copy of DK2, which is a good thing. Wonder what they're gonna do for Horny.
Re: War for the Overworld
Seems like such a throwback. Extremely simple strategy, expanding your area on a single plane (why even make it 3d? It looks like minesweeper with rts elements).
Maybe I missed something, but where's the innovation?

Re: War for the Overworld
You're right, of course. This seems to be pure fan service nostalgia so far. But there's still a long way to go, so it may evolve by the time it's finished. Thinking back, I suppose the originals weren't overly complex either.Plan B wrote:where's the innovation?
Re: War for the Overworld
Nothing wrong with nostalgia. I love nostalgia. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
But $22 on Steam? No.
Maybe packaged with another game.

Re: War for the Overworld
Have you ever played Dungeon Keeper? If not, then you have no idea what you're talking about. DK is pretty much unique in it's gameplay. I don't know of any game that is similar in gameplay. Also, this game's goal appears to be to be a near-identical recreation of a 1995 game. Complaining about a lack of innovation just makes you look stupid (certainly in this case, as "innovation" is the last thing DK needs). And what are you babbling about with your "single plane" nonsense? Tell me one RTS where this is any different?Plan B wrote:Seems like such a throwback. You sound like DTS, seriously.
Re: War for the Overworld
Note to self: Eraser really likes Dungeon Keeper o_O
Re: War for the Overworld
Well, yes and no. I do like Dungeon Keeper, but Plan B's post has such a wiff of ignorance sprinkled on top of it that I couldn't help myself. Like I said, it's my DTS detection that went off and triggered the response.

No, I haven't played Dungeon Keeper. I was just going by the footage that U4EA posted.Eraser wrote:Have you ever played Dungeon Keeper? If not, then you have no idea what you're talking about. And I may be wrong, but from what I saw it just doesn't entice me, so I stated that opinion.
You're right about how not every new game needs to be ground breaking. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Just not my thing.
