The Division - is this game as amazing as it looks?

Post by [xeno]Julios »

I'm basically a quake player, not a gamer, and have barely touched any other games - they don't really interest me. But for some reason, this one caught my attention:

Are there other games out there like this, and have I missed the boat, or is this as ground breaking as it looks?

I'm also curious what makes this game stand out for you, as someone who shunned games for the last 10 years.
It looks amazing, but basically it just seems to be a tactical shooter.

I've not played many games over the last 10 years either, but I have no interest in that game. Cameras allowing you to see round corners (e.g. round the car he was hiding behind) ruin games for me. First-person-shooters win.

Really? *That's* the deal breaker?
That's a pretty common feature in tactical shooters to know your surroundings before you advance.

Uh yeah. That's what makes it a game, and not real life. Do the alien death rays kill the realism for ya?

graphics for one, but the openness and scale of the world combined with the fact that it's multiplayer

the environments look amazingly detailed but i was wondering while watching that trailer how much of that detail has been nailed down like in a game from 10 years ago before we had physics engines

I've played more GRAW coop sessions with people who actually play and communicate like that (the 'fake' chat) than people who brag about what they did to my mom.
tactical shooters don't get bought by bros and 12 year olds, it seems. a good thing.

Looks like a good shooter for a console but the action looks way, way to slow for PC. If they ever port it, they'd best adress that methinks.

Also Jules, let me get this straight, your mind is blown because of voice chat? Wut?

I dunno - the whole thing just blew me away. Maybe there are other games like this - I just happened to watch through the entire trailer for this one.

but if i had to say what stuck out to me:

the sheer vastness and detail of the world
the fact that it's primarily multiplayer and open (i think i kinda get what this means but not fully)
the really cool and intelligently designed information overlays. Watched this twice and picked up a bunch of very cool details the second time.
one of the players was in a really cool flying fucking vehicle

apparently there may be a pc port.

"you're were"
