This is the End: not even going to put a number on it. if you liked both Pineapple Express and Dogma, then this is your movie. if not it will be painfully terrible to sit through. definitely not for everyone.

The Purge = 4/10 - Pretty lame and mostly kinda boring. Lena Headey looks so much hotter as a brunette...I mean holy shit she looks hot as a brunette. Did I mention Lena Headey looks hot as a brunette? All 4 points I gave to this movie was because Lena Headey is really fucking hot as a brunette.

The Act of Killing 8/10

A British documentary maker goes to Indonesia to speak to the perpetrators of the 1950-60 genocide. He finds a few of em, astonishingly they all tell him proudly about how they killed people and stole their shit... "Some of them weren't even communists" one guys admits laughing; "We just wanted their things". Most of the former killers are now powerful men in positions of influence, protected by gangsters and the state. They appear to have no regrets at all, actually being quite proud of saving their country from the communists.

So the documentary maker challenges them to recreate the attrocities they commited and film them, in a scene and a genre of their own choosing. He gets the help of a local TV studio and off they go.

The results are completely and utterly fucking mental; we see a twisted musical, a psychotic nightmare scene, a 50's style gangster hollywood scene, etc. It's a sickening mindfuck, though what's interesting is that doing this is for a few of them opening up a floodgate of old wounds... the last scene has one of the perpetrators walking around the area where he and his buddies killed hundreds, dry heaving and becoming utterly distraught. "Have i sinned?" he asks. Well no fucking shit dude.

Powerful, powerful stuff. See this (instead of the latest superhero movie, you uncultured swine).

??? How so?

Why would I watch a show called "Sarah Connor Chronicles"? It's ridiculous simply on its name alone and I could probably safely guess that it's about as cheap as any other Sci-Fi/Space Channel show and there are probably about 2364533 Terminators in it. As I've mentioned before, The Terminator was a horror film with loads of tension and...well...horror, and I'm guessing in the TV show having all those Terminators constantly chasing you episode after episode sorta lessens the tension.

Just a guess TBH but I doubt I'm far off.

"The House I Live In" 6/10 . Documentary on the failure of the war on drugs. If you are new to this topic this is a great watch. If you are informed there is not much new here. Read "The New Jim Crow" to get all the stats.

Interesting point on Nixon. He favored spending more on treatment than incarceration. Then RICO brought all the cash to local law enforcement and Big Penal created a massive volume of cells and it was game over. Many law enforcement officers see this as a failure.

Get it at Amazon.

The PROMETHEUS extras DVDs

I have been on my back for a couple of days (bad back) so I took the opportunity to explore  those extra DVDs that came on the Collectors Special Edition 3D BluRay.

I was astounded by the lengths they went through in a relatively short time. The detail in most everything was amazing to see, and yes I know there was a lot of CGI but things like a potter on his spotters wheel making those clay (black goo) vessels and even the guys making the "food", fake caviar were great to appreciate.

Funny, they promised "Questions Will Be Answered" proved to be false as although there was some explanation not many of my questions were answered.

Still top marks for making the "making of" available

The back is better :)

Watched Centurion 2010

Pretty good all round and lots of blood.
I watched because I recognized the name in the cast list of Michael Fassbender (David in Prometheus).

Briefly the Roman 9th Legion is slaughtered by Picts in the first century.

Rather good IMO

It has an ensemble cast, including Morgan Freeman. I guess with him in it I thought maybe perhaps it wouldnuh couldnuh shouldnuh suck so hard...but it was just so laughably bad. The soundtrack was especially lulz worthy...I'm laughing right now just thinking about it.

It'll be an entertaining 2 hours for stupid rednecks who forgot to get tickets for the tractor pull or are too lost in the mall to catch White House Down.

Yeah, because Morgan Freeman's involvement is the ultimate sign of a good movie. Allow me to present:

Olympus Has Fallen
Wanted
The Bucket List
Evan Almighty
The Big Bounce
Deep Impact
Now You See Me
The Sum of All Fears

etc.

les miserables - 8/10

only 7/10 tbh... that last scene felt out of place.

he never really was a part of the revolution and then in the afterlife he hangs out with people he does not even know? and what is anne hathaways character doing there? she died 8 years before the revolution.

i guess they just needed an excuse to play the revolution song again.

Europa Report

Astronauts on their way to explore Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, because there's liquid water and therefore extraterrestrial life, mebbe.
Refreshingly slow and boring. A pretty realistic depiction of such an endeavor, without big explosions and scary aliens, focussed more on how the crew handles things.
