Anyone know this? I found out through a YouTube commercial that this site exists. It's an browser-based game (using the Unity Web Player) that's pretty much a copy of Rocksmith. For those who don't know Rocksmith, it's like Guitar Hero but you can play it with a real guitar.
Guitarbots requires a real guitar as well. Either accoustic or electric, it doesn't matter as it can recognize what you're playing by using a microphone to record your guitar. I plugged my guitar into my computer with an external audio interface, but simply using a guitar jack to 3.5mm jack converter into your PC's line-in works as well. I've played around a bit with this last weekend and the detection is surprisingly accurate. Individual notes as well as full chords are recognized very well. Accidentally playing a major chord when a minor is required is indeed detected as an error. The whole thing is presented in a colorful cartoonish fashion, which sometimes looks a bit corny, but if you can look past that, then there's a very solid guitar playing (and practicing game in there).
The game doesn't feature "real" songs though (as in licensed pop music like Guitar Hero does), only songs that were written and recorded specifically for this game. Most of those songs are based on license free existing (folk) songs but each of them are of pretty high quality if you ask me. The song are categorized to a certain skill level. The first song you play is a skill test that determines your skill. Based on this test, songs are unlocked. I think songs can be unlocked by playing slightly easier songs first, but I don't know because the skill test is rather easy so everything was unlocked for me from the start. And that is the biggest gripe I have with the game: most of it is too easy. The only song that I didn't score 3 stars with was the very last song. You can move on to the special "Mr Fastfinger" challenges from there, which are quite a step up in difficulty again, so that's still a good challenge. It's just that the majority of the content is aimed at beginners. This in itself isn't surprising, as the creators of the game tend to market this as a guitar practice tool rather than a videogame, but the developers did state on their forum that they will come with additional high skill content soon. There's also a practice mode for each song, where you can repeat sections and even slow down the whole song.
You can design your own song patterns as well and even import GuitarPro files and share all that with other people (in the form of challenges), but creating your own content is a payed for "pro" feature. The game can be played for free, but only up to 5 minutes a day. You can earn additional playing time (up to 1 hour a day) by doing things like inviting other players or liking their Facebook page or things like that. The alternative is that you buy a subscription.
Here's a YouTube video of one of the Mr Fastfinger challenges:

Re: Guitarbots
import via guitarpro is pretty awesome.
might check it out.
on that note, anyone ever checked out Chordify? http://chordify.net/
this website generates chordprogression tabs based on a youtube link or uploaded mp3. pretty accurate, too.
you can loop sections for practice purposes too.

Re: Guitarbots
sweet.. mr fastfinger.
Also, it's online? This is pretty smart tbh - especially if the next step would be to generate more advanced content.
I will have to give this a shot later
