It's time to go Nukular
It's time to go Nukular
All our current sources of energy are either massively pollutive (coal/oil) or non-viable (solar/wind-energy).
I understand the reluctance because of the Chernobyl/Fukushima scares, but those reactors were built on 50 year old technology.
Seriously, at this stage, who in their right mind still opposes nuclear power? It's safe and efficient now. The gains really outweigh the risks.
And our current sources of energy are limited. We have almost burned up all the coal and oil. And then what? Solar/wind-energy will not sustain us.

If the entire world switched to nuclear power, we'd be out of uranium in 100 years. I do agree that we should be utilizing more of it though.

Go nuke!
Seriously though I agree, it is the best choice we have at this point. However, as I've said before the main impediment to this source of energy is corruption at the root cause of most safety issues with these installations: cheap construction.
We need to get an actual honest construction company that actually builds it the way it was supposed to. Yes, nuukular reactors are expensive. Trying to save a few bucks is too damned short-sighted for this approach and anyone who bitches about the cost should simply stfu.
And for fucks sake if your reactor is anywhere within 5 km of any ocean coast along a fault line put up some proper fucking tsunami wave defense or perhaps water-proof your backup generators.

Thorium sucks, if the world uses thorium instead of uranium then I will be out of a jerb.
so let us all unite, hold hands and say no to thorium.
are you wif me?

Re: It's time to go Nukular
What about nuclear waste that needs to be stored in bomb safe shelters for hundreds of thousands of years?
Re: It's time to go Nukular
dump it in the sun.
Re: It's time to go Nukular
There's plenty of energy arriving from the sun (many thousands of times what the entire world uses), we just aren't able to make use of it well right now. At most, nuclear is a stepping stone to tide us over until we improve solar.Plan B wrote:Solar/wind-energy will not sustain us.

There's a multi-billion dollar industry waiting to happen right there. I'm sure the ruskies will have an advantage until the USA pulls its head out of Wall Street's ass.

Not only does axbaby and his stoopid job exploit the negroes...he is also pollutes the entire planet...someone ban this moron...

This is why I'm waiting for fusion power.

Re: It's time to go Nukular
Thorium is bullshit and nuclear is too unsafe and polluting.
Renewables are totally viable.

Re: It's time to go Nukular
solar, wind, small scale hydro and geothermal. more than enough capacity if harnessed...
Re: It's time to go Nukular
Tidal is also largely untapped. There are some prototypes in the works, but little real development.

I'm sure ze germans' real interest is research into solar death rays.
Re: It's time to go Nukular
They're planning on aiming it at the Greeks if they don't pay back those loans.

Re: It's time to go Nukular
I think solar power is the ultimate way to go. Why bother making a bunch of mini-suns on Earth when there is a gigantic thermonuclear reaction occurring in space right in front of us? Tap that shite!
