I just don't think I can put into words how much I LOATHE IE
I just don't think I can put into words how much I LOATHE IE
Have a clients notebook on the bench here infected with the Sober virus. I've removed the virus, however as usual, IE is all fucked up (seems most viruses fuck over IE these days).
In an effort to restore IE to a working condition I've had to spend almost 4 fucking hours tracking down articles and tips on how to reinstall/restore IE.
Of the two MS KB articles detailing how to restore/reinstall IE, NOTHING worked. Fucking gimps at MS. I LOATHE them too (at least in the IE dept).
I had at one point, removed IE through the Add/Remove programs. Oy, what a fucking headache... you'd think 'add/remove' means 'add or remove' but not at MS!!! Those fucking rocket scientists feel 'remove' means to simply hide it from the user/admin but leave all settings, files, and reg keys in full corrupt tact. ACES!!!
Re-run the ie6setup.exe you say?! Sure! Oh wait... it wont' run because a 'newer version' is installed. Repair? Why would you want to do that, IE is perfect (thinks MS)?!!!
So.... stuck with a broken browser that's heavily integrated into the OS and no way to reinstall or repair. Thanks MS, you really know how to knock it out. :icon14:
So after hours of searching and searching, I finally found a half ass solution. Some good bloke wrote a .vbs script that forces essentially a manual reinstall of IE. That guy deserves a pat on the back. The guy who wrote/manages IE just deserves a kick in the balls (several hundred more like).
I already loathed IE for it's heavy integration into Windows. This only reaffirms my hatred. :icon33: Cunts just never seem to consider the adminstrative side after deployment. IE is SO hard to troubleshoot and fix. I can't wait till it gets ditched someday.

I fail to see how reinstalling or removing IE would destroy viruses currently on your computer.
Much like when people have a virus and get told to switch to FF, yes it might not be affected by the virus, and yes it will help prevent future viruses, but viruses on your machine are still there.

Highly doubtful.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:who the f*ck would give that kind of advice? surely no one here.Kills On Site wrote:Much like when people have a virus and get told to switch to FF, yes it might not be affected by the virus, and yes it will help prevent future viruses, but viruses on your machine are still there.

Besides he said he removed the virus, but IE was fucked up in the process. Not that he uninstalled IE to get rid of the virus. KOS, been smoking the local shrubbery? :icon30:

You can completely delete IE with nLite http://www.nliteos.com/ (Which is a pretty p1mp proggie to begin with).

Exactly. IE is integrated as part of the system shell itself, hence the reason MS only hid it instead of allowing it to be completely removed.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:right, but for people that don't like hacking into their OS to do something like that, it's impossible. if it's not in add/remove programs, it wasn't meant to be uninstalled. stability, yeah.
