Long time no post! How has everyone been?

Post by Castle »

Its really cool to see this place still going strong after so many years! How has the good old Quake community been these days?

edit; I wonder how its possible that I made a duplicate post. Hmm now to figure out how to delete the dupe. Its kind of like walking into a place with toilet paper on my shoe! lol

Whoa... blast from the past!

GtkRadiant is back in active development, QuakeCon is always huge, people still play Q3 and QL, maps are being made, we see some new (and old) faces pop up every now and then.

What are you up to these days?

I recognize your name but that's about it! It seems like this damn community will never die... I've been itching to make another map... I have some ideas brewing in my brain. Once RealLife stops fucking me around I might actually have time to sit and be a nerd for longer than 10 minutes at a time. :)

All you need to know is that the coolest thing to ever happen to Quake 3 is here ;)

Haha!

GTK radiant still going strong? And Entityplus a single player Quake 3 mod?! I'll have to check these out!

I would have come back sooner but it appears the site was down for some reason for a day or so. :)
It tickles me to see this place is here going on like it did so many years ago! This forum is almost old enough to vote lol

edit: Side note, It looks like Entityplus is using that fancy google+ file revision database. How well does it work?

edit2: To answer your question Obsidian I have recently been Layed off so I find myself with a lot of extra time. Also I couldn't help but think of this place as working on my resume made me think all the way back to when I made my first resume many many years ago. XD

So sorry to hear that. On the plus side, you can flex your creative muscles and make some more Q3 maps to add to your resume!

It's from Google yes, but unrelated to Google+.
They offer SVN and Mercurial repositories together with some simple issue tracking, wiki and downloads functionality. It's adequate for a little project like EntityPlus, but I guess for larger, professional teams it's rather limited. One thing you need to take into account though is that everything hosted there must be open source, so you cannot have a private repository that has limited read access (only authorized users can commit changes). For personal stuff that shouldn't be open sourced I use Unfuddle which is comparable to Google Code, but they aim their service more at corporate use. You can create a free project repository to which at most 2 users can have access. The biggest advantage for me is that the repository is private instead of public.

Have a look at github as well. I personally never used it, but Git is the hottest thing for sourc/version control now, and github is the biggest free Git repository service around.

GtkRadiant is currently managed through GitHub, having been cloned over from the old SVN server. It's great for code but apparently not great for binary stuff, so the gamepacks are still on SVN.

Interesting. I have been wanting to find a good source control method for indie projects but when I found out that the google one requiers open source I hesitated. I love using perforce but FML it takes effort to setup and maintain something like that and is probably overkill anyway.

For some reason out of pure habit I put a + at the end of google LOL
