Freak deaths or just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Post by Whiskey 7 »

So, are they just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Just recently these two news items got me thinking just how unlucky some people are as death comes knocking but I wonder at these instances. Your thoughts :?:

Australian man victim of a random shooting in Oklahoma.
A Melbourne man who was on a baseball scholarship at an American university has been shot dead while jogging in Oklahoma.
...
Police have arrested three teenagers aged 15, 16 and 17.
Source

and a cyclist killed when truck hits overpass. Out for an early morning ride then dead.
Emergency crews spent hours trying to retrieve the body of a cyclist killed when a truck rolled after clipping an overpass on Brisbane's southside.
Source & video

Just maybe and by definition, 'freak deaths' simply means in the wrong place at the wrong time?

for too many reasons, tort law is flawed beyond belief. For these very random, (hopefully) very rare examples, maybe, it's valid.

Sadly his number was up I guess whereas those in the videos above were indeed in the right place at that wrong time :smirk: ?

I don't want to start a capital punishment debate here but I believe there is need for a death penalty for certain cases.

In our lovely sunshine state at the moment they are trying to parole a multiple rapist. IMO he should be dead but that's my view. There are many such cases so I should not single out any one in particular, this or the random shooting of an Australian by 3 scumbags kids who shouldn't breath air any longer >:(

I'm normally not for capital punishment but I gotta agree with ya Whiskey... in certain extreme cases it seems like it would just be better to off them and move on.

Case in point, that sick subhuman filth from Ohio that had those 3 girls trapped in his dungeon for however many years. Sentenced to 1000 years? Fuck it, just slice his neck open with a sword and let people watch. He is literally not a human. He said something to the effect of "I'm not a monster, I'm addicted to porn." Fuck off with that. Going easy on these creeps legitimizes their behavior. To me, any rapists should be castrated. Multiple rapists should be hanged. Creepy fucks that sexually brutalize three women in what can be equated to hell on earth for years at a time should be publicly slaughtered.

The death penalty is not a deterent and it never will be with these types of fucked-in-the-head people.

You realize you're speaking about simple revenge? Why not do it like the savages in the middle east and have public sword-to-the-neck beheadings? Why not make it into a reality show?

Are you fucked in the head or what?

Not (too) fucked in the head, just angry that freaks like this are even getting a shot at a second chance. I realize capital punishment is basically a waste of time and boils down to the juvenile/primal lust for revenge. I'm just venting, man! It is utterly infuriating to watch these creeps. Don't take my comments seriously. It inspires bewilderment in me to the point of wishing death upon them.

If we're gonna put them in jail for 1000 years at least make them do some hard labour or something.

I'll admit that I believe that people like Dick Cheney and other world leaders who are pure fucking nutters and kill LOADS of people without caring in the slightest shouldn't be alive, but I'd wish they offed themselves in their basement in the dark in a pile of their own excrement and vomit. Fuck that guy.

Agree, the death penalty is no deterrent. I am not asking or thinking we deter people. The punishment should fit the crime IMHO.

Simple revenge? I think not as I call that justice.
Why should we good people pay (taxes) to keep turds alive and share the air we (freely) breath on this small planet? Why?

1.000 years in prison, equals the worlds biggest joke. Death is needed here and end the life of the mongrel (I near called him a person) :smirk:

Savages, middle east & reality shows? Come now GONNAFISTYA. I like mrd are surprised, no utterly infuriated to the point of wishing death upon these sorts where we wouldn't normally wish ill upon anyone.

Sure...they deserve to die.

But you sound like a redneck when you talk about justice, paying taxes to support others and prefer stiffer, more extreme treatment of prisoners/offenders/the defendant. Sorry man, but you being from Brisvegas and being older I'm not surprised you think that way. :)

Sure...they deserve to die. But it's not society's place to dole out death to its citizens. I'm sorry but I'm tired of people who think frontier justice and anarchy is the way it should be...that way of living sucked and we have historical proof that shows why. It's the 21st century, perhaps you'd like to leave the 1890's and join us?

I agree with you GONNAFISTYA, they do deserve to die and I am no redneck: I am a realist!

I'd argue they cease to be a citizen when they commit these horrid crimes (BTW, I don't wish to argue*) and look I am talking like one in millions here, not that there would be a target (pun) or quota to maintain. In Oz that might be 2 'society sanctioned executions' per year. Elsewhere the numbers obviously mount up (if they need to), but the punishment should fit the crime.

Trust me on this; doing time does little to improve the criminal psyche in general.

Being older I may have seen more pain, suffering and death or been touched by crime more than you and I have no doubt closed the cell door on people that would make even your skin crawl.

Again this is my opinion and as you said, sure, they deserve to die.

I maybe a little emotional at this time as an acquaintance has been diagnosed with acute leukemia so I still support the belief that some people deserve to die before other (good) people.

Correction: I now pay little if any tax and I no longer live in Brisvegas :tear: :D
* I don't believe you're trolling.

there's no one right way to 'fit' punishments to crimes. in fact, there doesn't even seem to be any agreement about what the object of punishment is supposed to be. a deterrent? an expression of society's revulsion at the crime? a way of removing criminals from general circulation to protect everyone else? rehabilitation of the criminal? these aims can all contradict each other
