Time off work

Post by Don Carlos »

So after a mental year so far in work, I now have 3 weeks off to enjoy. I am not going abroad, but I do have a lot of things planned.

One of those things is to play through Half Life 2 again followed by Episode 1 and 2. I told a mate I was doing this and they said it was sad that I am spending my time off playing games. Now, I have plenty of stuff to be doing in the days; today was man day and I broke out all manner of power tools and garden stuff and gave the garden a good going over. I am about to cook some food, crack open a beer and watch the football (United vs Chelsea) and once that has finished, I will smash in a few hours on HL2.

So I wondered why this was seen as sad by him - a perfectly productive day followed by some sport and then some game playing. The only reason I can think that he thinks this is sad is because there is still a stigma around games or people who play games? Has anyone else encountered this?

I am not sure why I have decided to share this with you as I am reasonably sure the first comment here will be "lol jobs" or something equally as predictable by our resident retard. But I felt the need so there you have it.

Also as I do have free time and I won't have every day filled with awesomeness, does anyone else have any game recommendations?

Why do you care about what he thinks? Just do whatever you feel like doing.

Enjoy the time you can to chillax and do whatever the fuck you want.

There will come a time where you will remember fondly the times where you had weeks to chill and play and wish you could do it again but cannot with the demanding schedule.

I sure wish I could take weeks off and qu8ke or sumthing

i know that feel, bro. same here, and i have 2 weeks to take before end of next month :D gonna be hill walking with friends and maybe getting in some last-minute training to prep for the 88 mile Oxford-Cambridge ride - assuming i can be arsed since i've done it the last 2 years running and it's not much of a challenge any more

probably no games though. wouldn't mind a crack at 7 Days to Die, but it's still in pre-alpha (4 players max and no public servers atm). other than that, fuck games. fuck them right in the ear

that would be more impressive were it not for the fact that you're sponging off your wife, who still *is* part of the wage slave world. that makes you like one of those parasites that were guillotined by the French in 1789 or shot in a basement by the Bolsheviks in 1917

given Texas' slide into third world shitholedom, your days on this earth are probably numbered

Snap! I have 10 days off in October for a big birthday so I'm off to Spa to drive a car around the F1 track for two days! Busy times in my work world and I walk back in right in the crescendo of Project Verde and I'll have a brand new website to help launch and a shit load of content to rebrand if there have been issues while I'm away.

Still, Spa :D

You should do Oxford to Cambridge on a unicycle

Do what you want, bro.

Going to Scotland with the LADS mountain biking for a week first week sept. Doing the 7 stanes again and just booked two weeks away with the family in Devon. Cost me an arm and leg but will be worth it.

You should take up mountain biking where you live, you lucky twat. Afan's just down the road from you (me).

Ps, ill sell you my Scott, mates rates.... Help pay for my orange 5 build.

I wasn't looking for vindication of my choices; I will do exactly as I please when I please. If I wanted to spend the 3 weeks covering myself in mustard and whacking off to midget porn, I would. I was more interested in seeing if anyone else still gets the "games are for sad people" thing at all.

Dom - I have never ridden Afan or Cwmcarn (Cwmcarn is literally 10mins away too...)

Absolutely still get that, even from a lot of friends who used to play a lot of games - sometimes they're the worst in fact, as if it was something they have managed to get past!
