Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
I haven't been playing many single player games lately. I'm currently in the mood for a few hours of gaming.
Any recommendations?
In the past month i played
Bioshock Infinite: Great.
Antichamber: Ingenious.
FTL: Nice but a bit repetetive.

Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
Played through Deus Ex: Human Revolution again last week, did a pacifist run. If they just deleted the boss battles entirely that game would be almost perfect. If you haven't played it yet, I highly recommend it. However a new release of it is supposed to be just around the corner with revised boss battles, so it may be worth waiting on. Not sure if it'll require another purchase.
On a related note, the supposed spiritual predecessor to Deus Ex (or so I've heard), System Shock 2, recently arrived on Steam. I bought it for very cheap but haven't played it yet.
Finally got around to Far Cry 3. I much prefer the tropical setting like the original FC. The story is getting really weird (mystical artifact stuff), but at least there's no aliens (or whatever those things were). Yet. Not amazing, but if you can find it on sale for $20-25 it's probably worth it. Lots of playtime if you're a completionist.

Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
I just played the stupidly named but stupidly awesome "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" on the PS3.
Apparently it's coming out on PC soon.
It's a hack & slash a la Bayonetta / Devil May Dry and focuses on skill based play. You can complete it by button mashing, but you'll have low ranking scores.
The real joy comes in mastering the controls so that every button push is planned.
It's from Platinum Games, a bunch of people who used to work for Clover Studios. Previous games of theirs have been classics such as Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Godhand, Bayonetta and Vanquish.

"Fists Of Fury"
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?

£20!

Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
weird... it doesn't come up if you search the store (eg. for "sonic collection"), but if you go into "Sonic Generations", it's a purchase option!
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
I never could get into that game. I thought I'd give it another shot once the update comes out, but as I started following the progress it seems like it'll still be a couple months. That and I lost my character data so I need to start over. Sigh.Memphis wrote:Indeed it does. Blimey. When Transformed alone is £15 that's quite a bargain. But then Generations itself is £20, making it a steal! Wat.
Xmas sale looms though...
Terraria's 1.2 update should carry me through quite nicely
Do you ever get some better tools? Digging was always such a huge PITA. Something that can clear more than 1 block at a time?
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
I've heard this criticism a lot and I must say I disagree. I recently did a full ghost, no kills no alarms run on Hard mode and 100% quests complete, and the boss battles are fine.Psyche911 wrote:Played through Deus Ex: Human Revolution again last week, did a pacifist run. They are, in fact, too easy. If you can use your stealth abilities and noggin you can breeze through them. The only one that actual needs some brawling is the second one, but Typhoon takes care of that.
I have fired zero lethal shots in my run and had zero ability points in any of the combat skills (cept for Typhoon as mentioned).
it's fine as it is. ppl must stop being such noobs and remember the hard days of old.

Aye, Gunpoint's a great little game. A fantastic yet simple idea perfectly executed.
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
Never said they were hard, but they completely clash with the exact playstyle you mentioned. No kills, must kill all bosses.MKJ wrote:I've heard this criticism a lot and I must say I disagree. I don't bother with typhoon. Had almost every other aug unlocked on that pacifist run. Just 2 frags and a couple headshots with the silenced 10mm is enough to kill all but the last.
Plus, they're just not interesting, or like you said not challenging.
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
Square Enix is releasing a Director's Cut of DX:HR. Boss fights have been changed, Missing Link DLC is incorporated, and a bunch of other tweaks and improvements have been promised.MKJ wrote:I've heard this criticism a lot and I must say I disagree. Just found the Cinematic Mode from FakeFactory. New version I think...Whiskey 7 wrote:Just finished Half Life 2 again and enjoyed the look about...
Doesn't that put a whole new perspective on the game? The detail and light effects are to die for, added music great and the character pimper
I get lost in the high grass & shrubbery
Going to play through again and slowly.
Quite enjoyable.

I'm playing it. Still not sure if the gameplay is all that, but the story and the narrator are great.U4EA wrote:Thomas Was Alone as well. Really.
Re: Any good games you would wholeheartedly recommend?
I think the collaborative aspects add a certain depth to the gameplay that is somewhat unique. Also, you get a new character or mechanic in pretty much every tier of level, so it does remain interesting all the way to the end. Having said that, it is a fairly basic puzzle game and it's not overly difficult. You can finish it within 3-ish hours. I also agree that the narration adds a LOT to the whole experience, it's simply brilliant.Eraser wrote:Still not sure if the gameplay is all that, but the story and the narrator are great.

I am really getting lost in the world that is created by the Cinematic Mode from FakeFactory

I'm currently playing Mark of the Ninja - great game. So much fun! I like that you don't have to resort to killing the guards.

I'm currently playing through Dishonored. It's a pretty good stealth SP game with some sweet level design going on.
