Rome 2

Post by losCHUNK »

Anyone play the Total War series ?, this is a big let down. If you can get over the performance issues, which is a pretty big mountain to get over, then your stuck with the gameplay which is split 80/20 between a loading screen and capturing minor villages again and again and again in the same routine way. Battle mode has turned into a mosh pit n all.

IGN gave it 8.8 out of 10, Gamesradar 4.5 outta 5 <-- whorebags, the game is fucking broke and I wouldn't waste your money, imo :)

I don't put any weight into IGN's scores, they're a joke. Their average score for a medeocre game is a 7, not a 5, and every major title that comes out pretty much starts at a default of 8. The video reviews aren't half bad, but I always skip the last 10 seconds when they hand out the score.

The whole idea of a 1-10 scale (or any iteration thereof) for rating games is flawed. Developers get bonuses based on Metascores, and publishers decide to pick up games based on developers' Metascore history, not to mention publishers often times will opt not to allow a review site to get early access to a game unless they know they'll get a favorable result.

I was on the fence about getting Rome 2. I guess what I'm saying is that if losCHUNK thinks it's shit, then there's probably some truth to that, so I think I'll pass. Thanks, Chunk!

I'd atleast recommend waiting a few months so that it gets patched up then grabbing it in a sale if you can't try it for yourself

I spent most of last night on it after being a fan of the series, I'm usually pretty defensive about shit I enjoy and was expecting bugs that will be fixed over time but once you spend a few hours and get into the gameplay you realise that it's completely fucked.

The campaign map has been completely reworked, the whole game feels like it's been rushed and provides no depth with mechanics being included as an afterthought. It's gotten lost somewhere between Total War and Civ5 and has made the whole experience rather dull by giving the illusion of depth when in reality you get shit like towns that can only accomadate 6 building slots which provides you with a rather limited amount of options or having the same troops available 1 hour into the game as you do when you 12 hours in.

Any aye I usually check out IGN and Gamesradar to laugh at the bias. Eurogamer gave it a respectable 7 so left them out of it even tho I think that's still way too high.

Bah :/

I've always loved the Total War series and was eyeing this, but from the sound of it they once again released a game that's unfinished. I shall wait for a sale and patchery then (imo it's too expensive at the moment anyway, wasn't really tempted yet).

Yea it's even worse than that :)

If they get it fixed i'll be impressed

I forgot to mention the research tree is pants n all, it's like Civ5 but with half the technologies, even less benefit and takes 4 times as long to discover, even when excluding loading times
