Missing Quake Live maps

Post by v1l3 »

I had to reinstall Quake Live because my computer went hell...now when I use the menu to callvote maps, many of them are missing. Is there a place where I can download these maps again? I'm specifically looking to get back golgothacore, namelessplace, powerstation, sacellum, and seamsandbolts

thanks,

Yeah it's a little annoying that there are a bunch of even the non-premium maps that you can't play locally until you've played them on a remote server.

As far as I know, there's nothing that prevents you from using your web browser to proactively download map pk3s so you can dump them into your QuakeLive baseq3. For example try a URL of the form

Code: Select all

http://cdn.quakelive.com/assets/2010092803/game/baseq3/<mapname_goes_here>.pk3
(I don't think this is some sort of top secret hax0ring; apologies if I'm wrong about that.)

Don't know for sure. If you Google for mentions of cdn.quakelive.com you'll see various numbers in that segment of the URL. If I had to guess, it selects a particular backend (used for load-balancing by whatever service normally hands out these URLs to clients).

It's the date of upload in the format of YYYYMMDD01. So to find out when the latest version of the map was added, Google something like this:

update syncerror site:www.quakelive.com/forum <mapname>

... and look for the entry with the latest date.

As for a list of maps, there's also this:
http://quakelive.wikispaces.com/Level+Guide
It's probably missing the maps from the last few updates, if anyone wants to keep the site up-to-date, just put in a request to join the wiki and someone will approve it.

Hmm. As new versions get released, do the old URLs still work? I.e. if I successfully download a map pk3 from some cdn.quakelive.com URL, it might not be the same as the version currently used on the QL servers?

I've had a problem with a couple of older map links no longer working, but it's seldom the case. It will be the same one used on the QL servers if you looked for the latest update date in the Google search I mentioned... if not, the map will auto-delete as soon as you've loaded the QL site.

Yeah that kind of was the point I was implying. The number might be some unique value that's specific to that map so simply inserting "mapname here" might not work. But it was just speculative as I haven't tried.

For one of my QL installs I actually downloaded a few dozen maps using that particular timestamp/URL, and they haven't been deleted, so that's a bit weird... possibly none of them have been updated since 2010 though.

(Updated list above)

Also, I think the "date" can be any number value. I just tried Aerowalk with today's date (2013092501) and also a random number (12165456465465456) and it still works.

Maybe it is a date but it just returns whatever version of the map was the most recent one at the supplied date.
