PS4's 500GB HDD reserves 100GB for OS, cache and (hopefully?) shared media.

with ~50GB mandatory install per game, that fills up quickly.
good thing you can start playing while the game installing/downloading, ey.

re: playing whilst installing:

We've reacted to the news that all games must be installed and tested how long it takes to have to wait to play a 20 or 30GB game after the first time you put its disc in the machine. Good news: only about 30 seconds.
