With your 1st point, I'm unsure of these private prisons but it sounds like 'community service'. Ya know the old 'Ima singin on the raaaailroaddd all the live....'. I know in the basic terms it's slavery and that's how the slave trade was fueled pre-1800s but to compare slavery in those days, where entire generations were held captive and beaten, killed or raped to prisoners of today is a bit of a far stretched, no ?. I'd imagine any prisoner today would have some rights in developed countries. If you're on about 3rd world shitholes then they're still living in the dark ages innit.

Being a privatized, for-profit prison is intrinsic to the nature of slavery. That's just what it is. Calling a "for-profit, private prison" slavery is like calling a "collection of pages bound together within a harder shell" a book. It's not like you have to reach some threshold of atrocities before it becomes what it already is. That's just what it is. When you lobby government so that you can make up completely bullshit drug laws, then put a certain group of people in jail so you can outsource them for free labor, it is slavery.

I'm sick of this dumb-fuck rural mentality that certain groups of people need to be controlled with incredibly harsh laws, like mandatory sentences that put people away for the remainder of their lives for non-violent offenses. We like to pretend that they simply don't want to work, when the truth about it is that all of their jobs were outsourced during the globalization/neo-liberalization of American markets, and rampant deregulation of banks that imploded the wealth of their neighborhoods. It's the worst kind of evil, because we pretend its legitimate and lawful, when it's the most Orwellian society that's ever existed.

Nothing's really changed, but most things have gotten worse. The economy is liable to crash again because of the same shit that happened during the 1920's, rampant betting with depositor money, and fraud. They're going to try and deceive you and say that "people were trying to buy things they couldn't afford, when that's empirically, measurably not the case. It's fascism, because those machines we call people for the convenience of a "legal fiction" fund your self-destruction with your own money, by taking over the government, and coercing them into subsidizing themselves with your own tax-payer money. When your government subsidizes banks that intentionally rip off home-owners locally, and investors abroad, it is indeed fascism, and only mouth-breathing chimps will tell you otherwise.

What's this, a new person with an opinion that i mostly agree with? I mean, aside from the 'most Orwellian society that's ever existed' and 'worst kind of evil' remarks obviously - that's clearly taking things a bit far.

I agree wholeheartedly that private for profit prisons are a hugely problematic phenomenon though, for obvious reasons. We don't have them yet here, but there's been talk in the justice department about companies like G4S wanting a piece of the action... it's troublesome, because their business model looks excellent on paper and i can totally comprehend why a right wing politician would think it's a great idea. Their logic would go something like this i imagine: "Say what now, we can actually make a profit off this industry that is currently costing us bucketloads of money? Great, where do i sign?"

Institutions that deal with actual people and are supposed to serve the public interest should never never never be fully privatized though - the way the market works simply ensures abuse. Dangerous.
