Mikhail Kalashnikov R.I.P.

Post by Whiskey 7 »

Mikhail Kalashnikov, inventor of the AK-47 rifle, dies aged 94
Kalashnikov designed a weapon that became synonymous with killing on a sometimes indiscriminate scale, but was seen in the Soviet Union as a national hero and symbol of Moscow's proud military past.
Like the weapon or not, like guns or not, a date to ponder?

I like the comment in the article that reports Kalshnikov once said he would have been better off designing a lawn mower :smirk: .

The man single handedly change the war game. For better or worse (probably), he should be recognized. RIP

I will admit I owned an SKS some years ago this bought on by the video.

Funny enough when I purchased it was still in heavy brown, and I mean heavy, like the old tar paper (if you remember that stuff) and filled with the thickest grease material. Took ages to clean for firing. It was pretty accurate and yes, somewhat of a pleasure to fire :D

Hey, it might not be from Russia, probably a Chinese import.

Note: I sold my gun collection some months before the Port Arthur massacre here in '95/'96.
