Yeah, bit heavy on the qte in the beginning, hope that's just because they're telling the story and setting the scene.

$60 next-gen console version, also known as "medium-high quality" on PC.

lol at this ever being considered sex appeal...
i remember getting playstation underground discs WAY back when and there was some dorky moment when a 3d artists on the original tomb raider game was being interviewed and he made some crack about having nude 3d models of lara croft. lol?
anywho. dig the new look of lara croft and the game premise sounds like it could be pretty fun. metroidvania-esque. if it's anything like arkham asylum then count me in.
she's got all the right vertices

Do you not think its a huge jump between versions?!MKJ wrote:Very much noDon Carlos wrote:http://www.joystiq.com/2014/01/14/watch-this-next-gen-em-up-video-of-tomb-raider-ps4-vs-ps3/

Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
I already watched the video and there's nothing special about the "new" version they're marketing for console tards. The devs are shitting all over the current version of the game to make the idiots buy a glossy texture pack for $60. For someone who's used to playing dumbed down games, both graphically and otherwise, you sure get hooked in with "OMG IT'S DA NEXT-GEN UUHUHU!!!11" *seizure*Don Carlos wrote:Actually no - watch the video and you'll see whyCaptain Mazda wrote:$60 next-gen console version, also known as "medium-high quality" on PC.
Thanks for contributing to the downfall of quality games.
Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
I do not. I do however see a huge cashgrab, an unneeded upgrade for a game not a year old.
Sure, it's fun for the people who haven't played it yet. But if that's your audience then stop with the comparison shots and marketing.
The only people you might win over with this are the people who care about particle effects over level design and gameplay mechanics. The same people who buy yearly roster updates of their favorite sports game.

Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
I've never played the game but the video does show some startling differences in what is achievable on the "next gen" consoles compared to "current gen". Also the higher poly models and different effects are a considerable upgrade. The extra power of the PS4 and XBone have allowed them to showcase how the game should have looked I guess.
The PC will always be ahead of any consoles so comparisons with it are a mute point as far as I'm concerned. I don't think I've seen a game look better on a console than on a PC since the PS1 days.

Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
moot.
I like how she has a completely different face on the PS4 version, with makeup and everything. The polys needed for that nosejob were taken from that bandage on her arm it seems.
Extra details? More like smoke n misdirection.

Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
PC version already had hair rendering, ambient occlusion and tesselation on full 1080p (not that upscaled bs)
And yeah, changing the face was a big mistake. What are they going to do for the sequel, use the new weird face or stick with the same face current gamers are used to? Either way it's going to be jarring and nonsensical.

Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
Wow, really? In all honesty, without all the PC superiority sentiment here, I thought the improvements were really small, incremental improvements over the PS3 version.Don Carlos wrote:Do you not think its a huge jump between versions?!
Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
I blasted through tomb raider on PC quite recently (fun enough game i thought btw), and that PS4 vid is just ...lol. Sorry to add a little PC superiority sentiment to this thread again, but jesus, really? 'Severely underwhelming' is a term that comes to mind, 'stunningly blatant cashgrab' another.
I'm still very, very happy i never got into consoles... paying full price for inferior products just ain't my thing.

My answer is, while waiting for MKJ, is not initially but look hard and yes, I can see improvements. Note I have not played consoles for 25+ years and then they were Atari & Vic 20/C64sDon Carlos wrote: Do you not think its a huge jump between versions?!

what are you waiting for exactly?
Re: Tomb Raider Re-Re-Reboot
In answer, I have always enjoyed 3Dd FPS and never got into the 3rd person type games. They simply never interested me.
Stated at Wolfenstein through Quake to Unreal. Loved UT3
I might just look at them a little differently next I see one in shop/on display.
