So, rather randomly, after a conversation with a few of the lads in work it turns out they were both big fans of Quake 3 back in the day. After some reminiscing we turned out thoughts to Wolf ET which they both also played. After more chat and the like we have arranged a LAN party over my mates in Match where we will play all manner if games, new and old. The only slight downside is that I will need to play Counter Strike GO, which could be interesting.
I have not been to a LAN party for about 12 years so I am actually a little excited about reliving some nerdy past times
After sub 100ping broadband became widespread the advantages of having a LAN went away. The last LAN party I went to was 10years ago and even then it was just more about meeting people and having some fun then any sort of organized play. Now Quake2 and early Quake3 LAN parties....shiiiiiiiieeeeeeeet...

Yeah this absolutely the reason for the lack of these things happening anymore, which is probably the reason I am genuinely quite excited about it. I loved the social side of the LANs - not so much the pizza and body ouder issues though. The very fact I will be playing in a room with the other guys and be able to swear at them when they frag me will be a little treat. Time to break out the Quakecon tshirt from back in the day
I went to a lan party 2 years ago. We tried to play LoL with 5 players over one internet connection. It did not work.
After that it took the same course as all the LAN parties in the early 2000's did: After a few rounds of me crushing everyone in q3, they all wanted to play CS.

Nah, we still had regular LAN parties with friends even though we all had broadband and did clan matches. It's the social aspect, the getting together, the being with like minded people and everything that made LAN parties so great. No super fast internet connection can emulate that.
Nice... kinda jealous. Haven't been to a LAN party for probably 10 or 11 years as well. My old crew was mostly a UT crowd but I forced those fuckers into some good Q3 matches and wiped the floors with 'em. Good clean fun! There is definitely something to be said about hearing some guy scream "YOU FUCKING CUNT!" after you frag the fuck out of 'em
You can skip L4D 1, 2 is all you need - they ported all the levels.
Don't think i could be bothered with all the hassle that comes with LAN parties myself... dragging your PC around and being in a smoke filled den of sweaty nerds with food bits strewn around the place for a night is not my idea of fun anymore.
