Planning a holiday of about 20 days in May or September and looking for inside knowledge
New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
Just asking if anyone lives in New Zealand, just across the ditch or has visited of recent times.

Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

ChiQ, the
skinner with a cyborg arm lives there.
She hasn't posted in years and chiq.net seems to be down but some info here:

So, watch out for cyborgs there, that's what they look like; hth

Yeah, you can probably google her and just show up on her doorstep. I'm sure it'll just seem sweet if you bring her flowers or something.

I meant he could ask her about New Zealand, not visit her...
Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
Yeah, I'm sure she'll respond promptly to a PM from a site that she hasn't visited in years.

Basically land in Auckland, leave Christchurch, escorted coach tour over 20 days, supposedly it is full on.
Our main reason to visit (first time) is to land (helicopter) on a glacier and probably trek out and of course to see to wonderful scenery
Not too interested in the sheep

Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
Aucklands ok, a bit expensive vs the rest of the country. Christchurch is a bit crap. Still recovering after the earthquakes, and before that it was an oddly aggro place (lived there for a year back in 2000 doing study) But as far as the rest of your trip goes, sounds like you'll have a good time. Be careful on those glaciers though!
The 2 cities i'd recommend would be Wellington and Dunedin. You'll also wanna check out the Marlborough Sounds if you can. The cruise has some really amazing views etc.
Enjoy yourself Sir!

Seniors tour of New Zealand? Will the bus stop at a restroom every 5 minutes?
Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
really? i lived in Wellington, didn't think it was anything special (even had an apartment overlooking harbour). have friend who works at uni of Otago down in Dunedin, he doesn't rave about itfKd wrote:The 2 cities i'd recommend would be Wellington and Dunedin.
best places to visit in NZ are the small towns that time forgot, like Martinborough in the Wairarapa basin, or Paeroa in Coromandel. cultural wastelands, but the cheapest way to experience the 1950s without inventing a time machine :/
Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
I've been living in Wellington for the past year and i find the place really cool. As far as Dunedin goes, you have to get out and about, there are heaps of nature based stuff to see and do all really close by.
But as far as the time machine stuff goes, heh yeh

Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
what i loved about those little towns was going into a little Four Square dairy and having milkshakes during a driving trip
oh yeah, and paying extortionate prices for a can of Fresh-Up. fuck u John Walker...

Multiple phone calls arranging at the moment, so fKd the PM delayed unit we settle on the tour.

Re: New Zealand? Anyone live or been there recently?
I suppose I'm late to the party, but I lived in Dunedin for a year and can vouch for the great amount of nature-based stuff to do thereabouts. There's great stuff to see practically anywhere in the country, to be honest (though Invercargill and Wanganui are probably exceptions). Will actually be returning to NZ in a few weeks to visit the Chatham Islands and meet up with friends.
May doesn't sound like a good time for a tour, though, unless you like rain. September isn't much better.
