I read the books, now finishing watching the first season. The TV show is very good, but if you guys really like it then you have to read the novels.

The TV show is more like a resume of the novels, plus they make a lot of the plot details quite obvious. The mood is a lot more dark in the books, plus the characters are a bit deeper. You really get to decide if the character is good or evil, it's not exactly clear-cut like it is in the TV show (so far at least).

There's also a lot more HMS in the TV show which Geoff loves since he can't read.

Anyone catch the Ser Duncan the Tall reference? If you don't know who I'm talking about, there is a great series of novellas, set 100 years prior to Game of Thrones, that follow Dunk and Egg.

Can't say that I recall anything about Oberyn Martell liking boys though...

That's awesome to hear about the novellas. I've been wanting to read SoIF, but I just don't like reading books after watching the movie or tv series. The characters and faces are already developed in my mind, so my imagination has been altered. But if this Dunk and Egg takes place 100 before, I'll try it.

Also, the way Oberyn Martell grabbed the boy doesn't convince me about his sexuality...

Couldn't recall anything about that either, but I read about it in the Song of Ice and Fire wiki as well, so I guess it must've slipped my mind.

Been meaning to read those when I'm done with A Dance With Dragons, but George Martin should get his shit straight and finish book 6.
