Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
It's Teksavvy's new fiber DSL.
Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
I heard "Ziggo" customers in the Netherlands that have a 100Mbps connection are getting a free upgrade to 150Mbps

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
"Fiber" DSL is still just DSL. There is no residential fiber service in Canada. That's why Bell quotes the service as "Fibe", because they can't legally call it a fiber line to your house. But anyway, who can complain about free upgrades, right? Teksavvy FTW.Captain Mazda wrote:It's Teksavvy's new fiber DSL.
I took a look at TekSavvy's website and noticed different pricing packages now. My last bill was for $32 but still stuck at 5mbps, I wonder if I'll be upgraded soon or at least get a cheaper bill next month.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
Fiber is still a new and exciting piece of technology in Canada. In Europe and the rest of the civilized world, it's ancient history
Your bill should be automatically adjusted by now if you're still on the copper. Call them and make sure.
(doesn't hurt to triple your speed for the same price either, the activation fee is now $50 instead of $95)

i feel so SLOW!

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
Amidy, are you on cable or DSL? What kind of modem do you have there?
I'm thinking of upgrading to TekSavvy's DSL 15/10, but apparently Bell has shit infrastructure that only supports one shitty model of modem.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
"Down Under" on ADSL2?
$80/ mth, free national calls telephoen (mobiles are extra)
10Gb/ then shaped

Here's an old one on cable, yes a different ISP & technology, a couple of years ago but doubled d/l speed

Dates top right hand side.
You can see below sometimes it was near worthless but fortunately I changed address (and ISP)

A TP-Link TD-6816 ADSL2+ Modem will work fine with 15/10 on Teksavvy. Just depends on whether your area supports to 10Mb up.obsidian wrote:Amidy, are you on cable or DSL? What kind of modem do you have there?

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
I already have an ADSL2+ modem. 15/10 or above service requires a VDSL2 modem, and the only one supported by Bell's wonky draft DSLAM infrastructure is the Sagemcom 2864, which has a faulty Bell locked firmware that causes constant connection drops. Thanks Bell for once again fucking shit up.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story ... -olds.htmlUltrafast internet speeds that most Canadian city dwellers can only dream of will soon be available to all 8,500 residents in a rural Alberta community for as little as $57 a month, thanks to a project by the town's non-profit economic development foundation...
"Because we're a community-owned project we get to balance out profitability versus what's best for the community."...
All told, the project will probably have cost $13 million to $14 million when it's complete, Gustafson said.
$13-14 million is really just peanuts for infrastructure... all achieved though government and non-profits. Bell/Rogers/Shaw corporates can probably make that much in profit in a week, yet they have no incentive to upgrade their own infrastructure. Makes one wonder just how much Bell, Rogers and Shaw is swindling the entire country.

As said above, the TP link modem works well, and sells cheap ( goes on sale for $15. )
Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
Wish id see the 150 I pay for, But itll do.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet

Just got a new ISP, they say it doesn't work flawlessly for the first 3 days, so I'll run the test again after 3 days.
They also said you can make it better by using your connection as much as possible; what's that about?
Also getting that Q3W at 56k speed effect that people were mentioning in another thread (in GD). Some pepole were getting it, some not, I wasn't on my old ISP but am on this new one. Anyway that ping is lower, that's good, right?
http://duckduckgo.com loads quickly, only other site I just tried.
Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
whoever said that is an idiot, especially if you're on a capDTS wrote:

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
What they meant is you can make the 3 days transition get the connection up to a better performance by the end of it (the 3 days) if you use the connection as much as possible. Just to clarify.
Is it still bullshit?
There's no transfer cap.
Yeah, I knew lower ping is better, just not whether the Speedtest site is a good indication of the sort of ping you'd get elsewhere.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet
lol Rogers...
Full speed during peak hours and a 300GB cap that only counts downloads and is unlimited between 2am-8am. Teksavvy wins.

Re: Just recieved an upgrade in my area for internet

I should be playing online games with that ping, right? About time I got a new PC and/or online console.
