Whoa! Great episode.

It's becoming more and more apparent that the true war is between ice and fire. All this other shit is pointless and only important to oblivious men...

Holy fuck....
the Night's King!
And I was just thinking it was a boring episode that diverted a lot from the books. Then they flip the tables and start to spoil the upcoming books.

Dude, I love ya, but what do we have to do to get it through your thick skull that we don't want any talk of the books in here. Even your mention of "diverting from the books" and "spoiling the next books" takes away some enjoyment of the show. Coming in here and saying "***** ****!" When that hasn't been revealed to us in the show, that's a spoiler, whether you think it is or not. So, for the love of god, just keep any mention of the books outa here, please...

Haven't seen the episode yet so I'm not sure what it's about, but just to be on the safe side I put a reference between spoiler tags.

Not sure how simply stating there's a deviation from the books is a spoiler so I just left that in there. But let's err on the cautious side a bit more in the future.

My apologies for pulling a name from the official episode guide...

I suppose its also a spoiler to mention the new guy in the Night's Watch or was that one obvious enough for you?

Considering Lock has been in several other episodes, pretty obvious.

Don't be a smartass. Just try to be respectful. How hard is it not to even mention the books? I think there's even a SoIaF book thread around here somewhere...

It was in the episodes synopsis on the HBO webbie. Not mentioning the books wouldn't have saved you here

I also like hearing where the books divert from the series, without having spoilers thrown in your face if you ventured into the book thread. I think you've even told me 1 or 2 things ?

Back in episode 2, while Roose was talking to Ramsey and Theon, Lock was present. Roose told Ramsey to take Winterfell, but it was strongly suggested that Lock would be set on Jon's tail.

Yep, he said he'd give Lock some land and a castle if he took care of Snow...

Nog sure what the deal is with Locke. He's got a different name in the books. Anyone know why that is?

Dude, it's so different at this point in time I've just started enjoying it as a completely different story with some of the same narrative beats.

I honestly think they're writing the TV series now to entertain people who've read the books as much as those who haven't. Slavishly sticking to a story that a large percentage of your audience have already read doesn't offer much in the way of surprises, and fiction works best when it's presenting you with new ideas and making you think.

Perhaps, but there's some grand scenes I'm looking forward to that are now indefinitely postponed I guess. Not sure what to make of it.
Also, the white walkers have instantly gone from these mystical mindless unpredictable zombie-like beings to what looks like intelligent beings with a command structure and perhaps even goals in life, I dunno. Makes 'em less spooky IMO.

Well, I think it's both. The "minions" are mindless unpredictable zombie-like beings. And now it seems there is a hierarchy, with more intelligent leaders. Should make things interesting...

When it comes to spoilers, I think we can all just assume anyone reading this thread is up-to-date with the show.

Edit: to clarify, a spoiler is always something that happened in the books but wasn't shown in the series yet.

Kind of hit and miss in the humor department, but I found myself thinking the same thing with the "kill the masters" wall writing and Olenna Tyrell explicitly stating that she conspired against Joffrey while that was pretty much clear already:

lol, in their previous episode: "Strong Belwas? Who's Strong Belwas? Anyone heard of Strong Belwas?" :smirk:

I enjoyed last nights episode - quite interesting when Little Finger is with that bird and blurts a load of stuff out!

They gotta be careful with The Hound that he doesn't become too clownish. He's turning into a grumpy old man who doesn't know how to deal with this young girl's endless optimism. It's like something out of a sitcom.

I like Petyr though, and the little chat between Cersei and Margaery at the beginning was good too. They are so nice to each other but it's so apparent they hate each others' guts.
