i've never used one, but have always heard that moka pots do at least as well as cheap machines (<$150 perhaps?).

French press and a grinder for me  Works fine and you can control flavour by altering grind size and water temperature. I usually brew at about 190F. Only downside is I can drink a French press in 2 cups.

ffs Whiskey you don't need a machine. just get a Bialetti moka pot (probably $30), and if you have to be a fag about it, grind the beans yourself

whereas the buttons on your sarcasm detector work like a charm eh

Turbanator wrote:Funnily, I've just been through all this and ended up with this conclusion:
Do you want easy or authentic?

Easy, get a pod based one, but if you like cappuccino, get a separate milk foamer which foams proper milk. Powdered milk in the pods is nasty.

Authentic, bean to cup, most likely Gaggia branded.

In the end, I wanted to test how often she'd use it before going all out on a Gaggia, so I got a Tassimo. It's a general purpose hot drinks machine which does pretty good coffee. Disappointed with the cappuccino experience, but that's where I recommend a true milk frother like the Aeroccino which is paired with Nespresso machines.
A big thank you to all for the input & advice. It is appreciated.

Hello Turbanator
Like you, I believe we we follow your path. Drinking probably 3 cups a day and early at that, I do wonder if the authentic bean/grind will get the use it should. Lots of work for a few cups. Pretty sure it will be the Clooney Nespresso teamed up with the Aeroccino.

Again thanks all :D

We went to the local appliance store today and guess what, they had 'em all set up to test.

Had a cup or two, taste testing and checking the operation, but it ain't rocket science :)

Oh, didn't buy. I never on the reconnaissance mission.

As we were leaving, the sales person (who didn't sell) mentioned there would be a special on soon and to keep an eye out for it: That was nice

Soon Luke; soon.

Picked up the Breville Nespresso Citiz today after visiting friends who owned the model I was planning to buy and they gave it a good report :) all after 18 months faithful service

Prices? Well recommended retail was $399 AUD but generally on sale everywhere for $313.

I was about to buy for $299 at one specialist retailer but then a competitor announced a 3 day sale offering a further 15% off so I finally paid $254,

RTFM before using of course and pictures soon.

I recently tried camomile tea (pretty sure I've never had it before). Definitely recommended .

Not a fan of black regular tea though, needs milk :/.

black English Breakfast is horrid, but lighter teas like the ones I mentioned are not bad. they also need a wide cup, and shouldn't be too strong

I tried cheaper and apparently compatible national brand pod this morning and it didn't extract as expected :smirk:

I levered out and discovered the foil damaged more-so than the proper pods. When I removed the foil to see the contents (first time I have done this) and discovered tiny bits of foil in the coffee grinds >:(

I immediately took photos and will write a letter of complaint soon seeking answers, perhaps justice!

Moral: Be very careful in pod selection :!:
