Brave 7.5/10
Gorgeously made Pixar movie, really funny at moments with likeable characters. Merida, the main character, is a really refreshing character. Story is a bit shallow though, but maybe I'm spoiled by watching stories unfold in 13 hour seasons of TV series rather than 1.5 hour movies.

Yeah, wasn't impressed myself.
And using Brian Cranston for the marketing is akin to using Samuel L Jackson to advertise Deep Blue Sea.

What I did see and enjoy at the weekend (at the Leicester Square Empire IMAX which is luvverly), was Lucy.
Sure, I had to wave a magic hand in my brain in order to ignore the ludicrous psuedo-science back-story, but as a good ol' Luc Besson female empowerment flick, it works. Not quite as good as Leon or The Fifth Element, but still incredibly watch-able.

If you've watched ANY of the Godzilla movies for the plot or the acting you've been doing it wrong.

The visuals were awesome...I would say the movie was on par with something like Pacific Rim...

Don't get me wrong, I like a big, dumb movie as much as the next guy (I'm a massive Speed Racer fan for example), but Godzilla just didn't do it for me.
Just seemed a bit tepid and overwhelmingly grey.

It didn't have the anti-nuke message of the Japanese original (or any kind of message for that matter), but for a mindless popcorn flick about giant monsters playing hopscotch with skyscrapers it was decent.

Also here's my most recent list of recommendations and condemnations:

Tombstone - 8/10
The Rover - 6/10
The Descent - 5/10
The Amazingly lame Spider Man 2 - 4/10

The Iceman - 7/10
Identity - 5/10
The Game - 7/10
Spy Game - 4/10
Adventureland - 5/10

A Clockwork Orange - 9/10
Her - 5/10

If you liked Memories of Murder, you'll also love the police incompetence displayed in The Chaser and I Saw The Devil. Korean detectives make American cops look like geniuses.

How to train your dragon 2 - 5/10
Pretty awful, mainly because the plot is all over the place. They tried to put so much in there that you simply stop caring... not nearly as endearing and funny as the first. Shame really.

Tom Cruise vs the Aliens (i forgot the name) - 7/10
Quite liked the whole groundhog day meets starship troopers vibe, was pretty funny. Not bad for what it was.

it didnt do well domestically, but made piles overseas (afaik). maybe marketing was the problem? nothing about the trailers made me think it was new or worth watching.

On that note, watch A Touch of Sin while you're at it.

The Maze Runner (2014)

I needed a Sci-Fi dose and saw the trailer for this a while ago and I don't know if it is available where you people are :smirk:

Look not bad at all. An interesting story with a twist or two as you'd expect but nothing grand IMO and borderline Sci-Fi.

Think Lord of the Flies in a box that turns out to be a chem/bio warfare weapon and you're close.

Like I said, nothing to write home about :)

6.5/10

With a better director and a different cast it could have been a great drama.
