I had been convinced to go to Fanime for the first time this year in San Jose, CA from Friday to tomorrow (Monday). It wound up being a whole bunch of this:

I only ended up attending the day-time panels for the most part. I'll be going to next year's with proper planning as I didn't know there were events at all hours of the day and never bothered to book a hotel.

^^^ Looks like a fun day out Silicone_Milk

Today I have been running around something fierce. I went to they tyre shop at 07.30 am to get new tyres fitted and while that was happening, rather than sit about, I thought I'd go for a walk.

The beautiful day only wrecked by a call to say they had received on their delivery yesyerday the wrong size tyres and I should add 3 hours to their estimated finish time. I finished my 3 hour walk and went home to wait their call.

Not long after arriving home the local carpet shop people called to say they were outside and wanted to fit the lift car carpet (replacement for two lifts) we'd ordered a week ago >:(
I do wish people would negotiate appointments for attending. I could have been anywhere. They rock up and expected I'd be home  :smirk:

I am so bloody unlucky re Customer Service received these days >:(

At least the carpet install guy was able to drop me at the tyre shop without a problem.

Bloody hell. The on-board computer said I had a flat tyre only metres from the tyre shop as I was going home.. All was OK but the alarm kept it up
Short answer was I had to RTFM on getting home on how to reset the run flat alarm.

PS: Apologies for the many smilies but I am trying to impart some emotion.

At least tonight I am off to dinner and a few drinks with a number of old school mates (42 years since we left high school).

I hope you didn't tell them the truth when they asked what you've been up to.

It was great catching up with old school classmates again.
We are discussing if we are to hold another annual class reunion. It will be 42 years this time ;)

We are also trying to think of a theme just to make it a little different to the one last year when it was a barefoot lawn bowls, a BBQ and drinks gathering.

Trying to find a cinema showing Ex_Machina :smirk: but there appears to be none locally and I might have to drive for 90 minutes back to the big smoke.

Ooops, did the underscore give something away...

New job in San Jose, CA as of last week. Helping to migrate a start-up's team to a new tech stack. Right now there's a huge amount of number crunching and page scraping all pinned together with VBA at it's core using excel spreadsheets as its database.

Looks like I'll be moving up here; work down the street and the convention center around the corner for next year's fanime

We make an app that helps people to consume less energy in their households.

Launch will be later this year.

Just interested Doombrainwhat people are doing. No more!

Recently, some of my favourite TV shows and exhibitions I visit are about invention and in ovation, small businesses starting up. (think MS in a garage :smirk: )

You might have the same TV show where you are that involves business entrepreneurs (spelling?) asking a panel of wealthy and very successful business people to part fund their 'start up' and inject business nous/advice.

Last week for example there was a baby clothes brand seeking something like $40,000 for like 21% of the business. Another entrepreneur weeks ago had a utility truck (pick up truck for some) modification to enable easy tray loading and the figures might have been in the order of $400k for 20% of that business.

Pext and his app to save people money on energy costs should do well but I fear in such a competitive market (apps & energy) it may be a battle.

I've toyed with the idea of making an app that calculates how much power everything you use in the house consumes by linking every switch / button / electronic device and then pointing a camera at the electric meter and doing the calculations.

It wouldn't save power in and of itself but if you saw a dollar figure representation of the power you're using in your home it would likely have the effect of people consuming less.

Plus if you get real fancy you could make LED screens near each switch that tally's them up individually. I suspect someones probably already done this though.

Good for them. I've always wondered about electric companies that promote things that reduce electric consumption. In a normal world, if I sell a product I'd want to get people to use it more, not less. Seems like backwards thinking on their part. I don't know if the Netherlands power companies are private or owned by the government but here they're private companies and they promote stuff to reduce consumption.

Kimber loudspeaker cables. They are expensive but worth it every penny imo. Not very well suited for vinylists but great for CDs after 1990. Sounds great.
